Thanks a lot. I like the idea of having speakers at the meetings. We intend to complement this with hack sessions and (open) discussions as well.

Ask HN: Organizing a (Ruby) User Group

from the ask-hn dept.

I'm currently organizing a first Ruby user group in Nairobi. While I have checked on what similar user groups are doing, it'd be useful to hear from people who have organized/participated in such meetups. I'm interested in how you were able to lay the framework for the meetings and maintain the initial enthusiasm. Is it necessary to invite speakers at this stage?

Haven't seen a geekier homepage (a few 'sounds' that are out of sync). What's even more impressive is the link to work. Impressive.

I am 2 yrs out of college, now working as a telecoms engineer. I am also a hobbyist programmer with a lot of interest in IT. It looks to me that in many ways, you have achieved what I'd like to achieve in my career. I have always thought I could do with some advise from professionals in these fields regarding progression, growth and skills development. Kindly let me know should you be agreeable to this: [email protected]

This rings true with me. Although yet to hit the heights that you have, I treat my job as just that. Not a matter of life and death. Its especially true when you realize how quickly you will be replaced when you go.
