I have updated this with a few examples of where I think the open standard could help!

This is 100% the way. Did the same thing with my new Samsung. It's been a very clean experience.
Once upon a time, it worked very well.
Yes, that's what I'm talking about. It's possible that things have changed since I was in college ;)
Temporary paper IDs are issued in some states while you await receiving your real ID in the mail. They are easy to Photoshop and print and must be accepted with a photo ID with matching name, like a college ID.
I am watching this space carefully, and pretty excited about Apple getting involved. Apple sold 58.7 million AirPods in 2019, so if anyone can bring better hearing (for less $) to the masses, it's Apple. There is a longterm accessibility issue when it comes to hearing aids (mostly due to cost), and purchasing a brand new iPhone and AirPods would actually be substantially cheaper than buying new hearing aids. Hopefully Google gets in the game too with their pixel buds.
This is going to be huge for the hard of hearing.
Have you ever looked at all the third party scripts loaded by disqus? Garbage.
Improvements should be coming to big commerce soon as well. They just raised $64m. More competition for Shopify and I read their stock price is being scrutinized.
How does sketch compare to webflow?
This medium article is an example of good marketing. Just discovered this app.
I use MailChimp for newsletters and postmark for transactional email, and between the two have great deliverability. Both services, and many others, guide you through the process of setting all this up.
A recent survey of over 500 audiologists showed that the most popular (~70%) form factor of hearing aids today is the receiver in the ear (RITE). RITE aids place the hearing aid body (battery, mic, processor, etc) behind the ear, and run a thin plastic coated wire down over the front of the ear leading to the earcanal. On the end of the wire is a speaker (or receiver) that produces sound. This is an interesting shift from the past, where most people wanted hearing aids that fitted entirely in their ear. As it turns out the RITE is more or less just as invisible, but avoids some of the comfort and occlusion (blockage) issues that the fully custom in the ear hearing aids create. Either way, people want discretion, but RITEs have accomplished discretion with better performance, leading to the growth in their popularity.

In addition to the calls to disqus' API, I'm also seeing one or multiple requests to the following domains: tapestry.tapad.com
pippio.com
p.nexac.com
adadvisor.net
s.thebrighttag.com
emailretargeting.com
loadus.exelator.com
tags.bluekai.com
bevo.adsnative.com
bcp.crwdcntrl.net
Open the console on this page and see for yourself: https://jsfiddle.net/bmfmr2ps/
Also, they...
What a royal pain in the ass.
Airtable is a better spreadsheet imho.
From Wikipedia: "in humans, the acoustic reflex only involves the contraction of the stapedius muscle -not the tensor tympani."
Doctor of audiology here. I think you are mistaken. The acoustic reflex cannot be triggered in this way. The reflex is triggered only after being exposed to a very loud sound.

Sums it up well
I switched to sparkpost. Took about an hour. 100k emails / month are free.

So my company was mentioned on the first page of the NYT business section last week. The article also appeared online. The online version displayed a direct link to my website, while the print version had no link (obviously). It was exciting watching my traffic more than double for the day ... But what really fascinated me was seeing how many people took to Google to learn more about my company...
I agree with you, and share this pet peeve. Also, can you downvote on Hacker News?
I also use Rails Composer for new projects. I'm glad to see that the kickstarter has met its initial goal. Hopefully Daniel continues seeing support for his work.
