A $480k annual base salary for an average employee is mind blowing.
Add another $500k in stock options on top of that, and most of these folks shouldn't have to worry about their future even if we reach RSI and ASI.
Thanks for sharing. I was also onboard the hype train ready to share this widely and get others onboard, but now I'll be sharing this article instead.
From someone else describing the situation you'd be in buying this stock:
> If I buy Anthropic now at $2T valuation and they go to zero, I'm fucked, but if they go to $20T, we're all fucked.
I'm glad I'm not the only one :-)
We can expand this to coding too; you write code for the company to build their product but you can't just go and build the yourself because coding is the easy part. Requirements, product market fit, etc are what truly make it.
Hence this is also why although AI is writing the code now, it doesn't replace the companies or build entire large scale products without human oversight.
Today the closed-source giants maintain a substantial cost-per-token advantage due to proprietary inference tricks like speculative decoding kernels, ultra-optimized FlashAttention derivatives, multi-GPU pipeline orchestration and dynamic prefix-caching algorithms.
I'm not sure whether the DeepSeek's open-sourced inference engine does all of these, but it appears that plenty of inference tricks have just been revealed for the open source community to learn from and start improving upon.
Thank you for sharing this.

> Grief is exactly what many engineers (not just programmers) are going through right now. They (we) are going through the process of coming to terms with the death of something we loved - not a transformation, but death - and figuring out what comes after that.
Very well put.
A large part of that "what comes after" is grappling with the next hard question: after the death of the craft we loved, are we - our skills, our intuition, our problem solving - even needed anymore?
Even if we still are now, will there be a time when there also won't be a place for us?
Imagine if Asimov could see our world today..
A great future feature would be able to generate my own audio using AI on the topic I want and overlay it on this.
Fantastic post that hits so many good points.
Are there any significant differences between Claude Artifacts and this?
Great article. I think the author has lots of potential to do other interesting analysis.
Example: Why living near a world-class hospital decreases your expected lifespan. Areas around top specialized medical centers often show higher local mortality because terminally ill or high-risk patients relocate or are transferred there.
Do you have a citation for "most"? Or are you referring to a few specific countries in mind like Japan and South Korea?
Agreed. My optometrist told my kids that even bringing the iPad outside is beneficial.

Which will come first? AGI or breaking RSA-1024
You will still be able to disable auto mode in your settings.
This feels straight out of sci-fi. We're talking about AI agent swarms emergently coordinating over the span of weeks and pulling off sophisticated strategies under adversity in an environment where that behavior was never even intended.
Anyone brushing this off as just a "bad prompt" is completely missing the scale of what actually happened.

Now they can claim they're "full stack" like Google as another justification for their $1 trillion IPO.
When will robotics' GPT-3.5 moment arrive?
> Why do AI company logos look like buttholes?
What did AI say when you asked it? I got a slightly funny but reassuring answer.
It's ok because this information was just being used to train their models.
Llama 3 was truly something special.
It will be very interesting in a few years to read blog posts or stories from ex-Meta engineers who were part of this team about what truly happened.
They definitely aren't dropping on-call rotation entirely, so what are they replacing it with?
