Re:World Capitals Voronoi on Thursday June 11, 2026 @03:28PM (#48495251)
Suppose right before this re-bordering takes place, the countries are given the chance to change the capitals' location. Suppose further that they all do it to maximize the area after re-bordering.

I wonder how much the result will differ?

I do not see any discussion of the power required for such wide-area jamming. Even as the useful GPS signal is quite weak at the ground level, this satellite would require power in kW range, right?
Re:So Bright the Vision by Simak (1956) on Saturday February 14, 2026 @02:47PM (#47017684)
Probably one of the earliest predictions of writers being replaced by technology?
OK, but how do I load a suitcase on this thing?
I'm doubly baffled by this story.

First, when I buy mandatory car insurance, police can check its validity in seconds. I'd expect international shipping to be at least at that level of strictness.

Second, how insurance can help avoid sanctions? The enforcement should look at the goods source and destination, not on who insured them, right?

Re:Why countries trade with each other while fighting on Monday September 01, 2025 @02:57PM (#45095555)
The article is a bit ambiguous. It mentions "trade via neutrals" in passing, and it is not clear if all or most of examples are trading through neutral states (whether knowingly or not).
Re:The contrarian physics podcast subculture on Thursday August 21, 2025 @03:09PM (#44976800)
This is a very good summary of the evolution of her writings and videos. Unfortunately it seems many many people still see her as the best source of scientific truth.
Re:Optimizing My Sleep Around Claude Usage Limits on Monday August 11, 2025 @03:21PM (#44868349)
How many people would click on a "Using multiply Claude accounts to get more code" post?
Re:Citadel, a Calibre-compatible eBook management app on Sunday January 14, 2024 @09:51AM (#38990899)
All Kindles I had (the latest is paperwhite from 2020 or so) mounted on USB as mass storage and supported pdf. They also supported epub since 2014 at least.

Diner Dash was made by PlayFirst, BFG and many other game download portals were selling it (Windows PC version)
Re:Anti-AI Hype LLM Reading List on Sunday August 27, 2023 @03:40PM (#37285923)
"Anti-hype LLM reading list" - this is the actual title of the github page.

"Anti-AI Hype" seems to be a very bad editorializing. It corrupts the meaning of the title, and makes it ambiguous.

Re:The Truth Behind Poland’s ‘Anti-Vampire’ Graves on Thursday August 17, 2023 @09:42AM (#37161430)
Poland was right next to Romania up until 1939.
If you look at it and pay for it, sure it's legal, no?
Re:Gandi.net – Pricing Update on Wednesday June 14, 2023 @09:09AM (#36325340)
Do you happen to know what are Grilles / Grids in the price list?
Re:Gandi.net – Pricing Update on Wednesday June 14, 2023 @09:02AM (#36325245)
FWIW, "Pricing Update" is literally the subject of the email they sent today.
Re:Understanding GPT Tokenizers on Friday June 09, 2023 @06:54AM (#36255976)
I've run across a paper "Bytes is all you need" or the like a few days ago. Probably something you'd like to read

well... either their counter is broken, or nobody needs to read the article to take part in our fruitful discussion

Re:US prepares to drop the survey foot measurement on Saturday December 31, 2022 @04:23AM (#34194907)
Non-native speaker being curious: do we need to use plural with fractions less than one?

Is it 1/2 foot or 1/2 feet?

Re:How Long Would Society Last During a Total Grid Collapse? on Wednesday November 23, 2022 @02:53AM (#33716387)
Your Kyiv teacher is lucky. Blackouts vary a lot between regions and even within a single town. We have a distributed team and track blackouts in daytime, 8am-8pm. A couple of people had no blackouts so far whatsoever, a few had about 40 hours off out of 60 last workweek. The median is somewhere between 25-30. It is getting worse gradually.
Re:The erasure of women from online pregnancy literature on Sunday November 20, 2022 @04:43AM (#33679655)
This article is for paying subscribers only.

It baffles me. Do people wish to pay to read stuff like that? I mean, what the point to write a polemic article and severely limit the access to it?

> The Arizona Department of Economic Security tells TikTok when you view > pages concerned with domestic violence or food assistance.

I mean, I understand a random site doing this sh*t, but this is a gov agency, right? What the hell any ad tracking is doing there?

Re:Deep Learning Papers Are Kinda Bullsh-T on Tuesday July 19, 2022 @09:50AM (#32151407)
Collecting the data is costly. I don't believe we will see many private datasets openly released.
Re:Ask HN: Apple Appstore blocks payouts to Ukraine? on Sunday April 10, 2022 @11:18AM (#30977797)
I agree that they may have no control. However they also flatly deny any information on what may have gone wrong - and bank wires hardly ever fail silently. So they definitely have some info, but have no desire to cooperate.

Ask HN: Apple Appstore blocks payouts to Ukraine?

We received this message from Apple appstore a few days ago. ================= We’re reaching out because either your bank, an intermediary bank, or our banking partner will no longer process payments to the bank account you provided for vendor number XXXXXX. If you need to update your banking details, visit Agreements, Tax, and Banking in App Store Connect. ============ Apple explicitly...
