Is there a competition among the tech pros for who becomes the most hated tech bro in the world?
Which ones of the 51 European countries you believe I am ignorant of their history? Anyhow, my point had nothing to do with Europe’s history. I was just saying that except for Putin and allied fascists European now realize that at best the US is unreliable ally and a bully in decline.
One great thing about the Trump administration is that it exposed to the US’s mostly western allies what the rest of the World has known for a long time: that the US is just another oppressive empire that doesn’t hesitate to crush whomever they perceive to be a threat to their hegemony.
The way I have been doing it is to use LLMs to generate the code that I don't want to write: prototypes, tests, benchmarks, isolated, straightforward almost copy-paste code. I still write my own code as before because I enjoy doing that and because trying to understand and fix what an LLM generates and regenerates is harder and more tedious and time consuming than writing the code the way I want to do it in the first place.

I switched to Sync last year. Much cheaper, better quality.

I wonder if this an indication that they’re worried about securing enough funding to keep developing models that need upgrading every few weeks.

Famously Norwegian cows “picking” stocks by shitting in marked grid did as well as professional stock brokers and much better than astrologers!

Hopefully this helps stem the brain drain from developing countries
Re:RTK reports token savings, but our cost benchmarks disagree on Saturday September 12, 2026 @04:34AM (#49670296)
I too did not see any benefit from using rtk for general bash commands. But it saves between 3 and 7% when used with more verbose build/test tools e.g., cargo.
His word is gold. Just ask his contractors. But seriously, people living in actual banana republics would be embarrassed by this level of nonsense.

Re:The turbulent AI era is here on Thursday August 27, 2026 @06:13AM (#49462380)
I am not optimistic. What we learned from history is that despite all warnings and good intentions, governments, corps and citizens will make every possible mistake before we finally arrive at another precariously stable situation. Experts are famously bad at predicting the outcomes of new technologies/policies even in times of relatively low upheaval. And plans have a way of producing many significant unintended consequences. This is not going to prevent people with strong opinions from asserting that they know exactly what needs to be done. And in the rush to do something many things will certainly be done. We are screwed at least for a while.
these are the self-aware ones. I worked with and trained hundreds of scientists; I would say 95% of them had at best a shaky understanding of basic probability and statistical concepts!!

Re:How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @09:02PM (#48914962)
I believe that the “thought process” of humans is just another automatic process albeit more sophisticated because it is running on a far more powerful processor that has evolved over millions of years and was honed by many more years of fine tuning in a complex social system. The difference is only a matter of degree.

looks like a screw up in some farm(s)/processing plant(s), possibly exacerbated by heat and rain. It is going to be hard to identify the source. If I was in America, I would stop consuming fresh produce (it is really hard to ensure parasite-free produce no matter who you wash it). Wondering if this has already spread to Canada!

As a daily user of Homebrew for > 10 years, thanks for all your hard work.
Not sure it did. Look at what happened to the Quebec economy in the last 40 years or so.
This was a bone that Smith threw to the extreme right (by Canadian standards) wing of her base. Even Quebec, with its stronger claim to nationhood, found it hard to disentangle itself from Canada, so it is unlikely that Alberta will succeed. But, it will still pay a price like Quebec did; businesses and people do not like secession politics, and the infighting is likely to be bruising. Smith's conservative party, as well as the federal conservatives (also led by a unpopular Albertan, may also pay a price (arguably they have already did with defections of their MPs to the Liberal party). So, all in all, this looks like another unforced error by the Canadian right.
Is that you Luna?
