Re:The super-recognisers of Scotland Yard on Thursday August 04, 2016 @08:34PM (#12229396)
Thanks for these.

I have realised that I am perfectly average at recognising faces getting 79% on the bbk test and 10 out of 14 on greenwich, however I don't recognise people that well. I hadn't realised there is a difference.

Anybody come across this?

Possibly because it was a sysadmin that leaked it. It has to be decrypted at some point for people to see it.
I was at a junction in Spain and I had no idea what to do. It was the most hectic thing in the world, you just sort of went and hoped.

I guess its simialr to some roundabouts in London.

I have no idea how an AV would handle that(unless they were all AVs at the junction)

Yeah my Hisense smarttv is android 4.2 and it will never get upgraded. I am pi$$ed - mainly because it didnt occur to me, I had it in my head that I could upgrade it or their might be a community scene but not for something this obscure.
Obviously I do too. That was funny :).

I am not in the states and I can't get most of the services. I wish they would at least do regional podcasting advertising. A startup opportunity :)

How about balloon boy? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balloon_boy_hoax I am a parent and I wouldn't do this but it doesn't mean others wouldn't.
Is it dark intentions when the nature of a company is to make as much money as possible? The banks want house/land prices to go up so that they can charge one as much in interest as they can get from one's income, whilst making money on any land/property capital appreciation that they have. This is just capitalism surely.

My solution - nationalise the mortgage lenders and cap the mortgage to a 3 * multiplier of annual earnings.

The potential for having a go in someone elses professional/semi pro space sounds wonderful. I can imagine 3d printers, photo and video editing, well tooled workshops etc..

Ask HN: What are your favourite Management and Time Management techniques?

A while back I downloaded a pomodoro app and I have been trying to focus for the 25 mins and its really difficult in the world of emails/hangouts/facebook/linkedin and the phone but I found it definitely interesting and I will keep trying. There was a professor who lost weight on the twinkie diet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twinkie#Twinkie_diet.

He just ate less calories than he needed.

I don't think it will necessarily work because some cracker has just probably added that to their personal dictionary(if they didn't before). It might work if you add 3.14159627 to it or a number/symbol set of your choice. I guess length is fairly key as well.

Re:The Great Chinese Exodus on Monday August 18, 2014 @09:35PM (#8195657)
Not in my experience with Melbourne.

Glen Waverley, Box Hill, Springvale and then the spillover. I can't get a look in. One house went for $200k over the asking price. Glen Waverley has supposedly ~25% Chinese but its a lot more in practice. There are also a lot of Indians looking in the surrounds. There aren't that many anglo people at the viewings at all.

I was talking to a mortgage broker and he said that in some cases the children were advance parties with parents money.

A lot of the estate agents are Chinese as they cater to the Chinese.

Also it failed at the first hurdle for me. I don't rent or own. (I am deposit saving with in-laws)
