Maybe Bezos should spend less time fiddling with 10,000 year clock and more time caring about employees ?

Re:Sleep (or how to hack your brain) on Monday September 12, 2011 @12:35AM (#2985848)
Isn't that what supposedly Edison did, take cat naps and then go back to work? He probably did not know anything about REM and Polyphasic, maybe just discovered he was more productive that way?
Re:Nuclear fusion 'will work' (auto-starting audio) on Sunday September 11, 2011 @07:08PM (#2985139)
Fusion has always been and always will be 30 years aways...

Re:Why we don't need Gigabit networks yet on Sunday September 11, 2011 @06:49PM (#2985111)
The only people that "need" Gigabit connections are the High Frequency traders. For everyone else, 100Mbps is plenty.

This is a giant waste of money.
Re:Namaste MotherFucker - Funny on Monday September 05, 2011 @06:13PM (#2963464)
there is, I think, a deep yin yang of the words Namaste and motherfucker ajoined. hate and love meet on the other side of oneness.

Re:Stop Living for the Approval of Women on Monday September 05, 2011 @05:46PM (#2963405)
Interesting, but, would the first hut (abode) have ever been built without men needing to impress a woman? Perhaps that was the proverbial byte of the apple? ;)
Re:Steve Jobs Would Never Invest in a Y Combinator Startup on Monday September 05, 2011 @12:59PM (#2962722)
LOL, yes, WWSJD, but let's not forget, there are thousands of very sucessfuly companies that somehow manage to muddle through with out SJ. In fact, I would argue that SJ approach may not be ideal for certain types of businesses.
Re:Socrates as a mentor? on Saturday September 03, 2011 @12:53AM (#2956525)
People forget that Socrates was forced to drink poison ostensibly becuase he had not made many friends with his "method". So one might consider that. I think often times say "the Socratic Method" which is a method of aurgument when really, they mean to say "ask a lot of questions" but that does not sound as cool I guess.
Re:Wireless Breakthrough? on Friday September 02, 2011 @01:52PM (#2954953)
From what I can tell, DIDO does not overcome Shannon's law, it just moves the channels around that still fall under Shannon's law (basically re-using white space). Interestingly, this is not that different than what LTE does already (using it's SON feature, Self Optimizing Network). One problem that DIDO has is that it neglects the the speed of light, latency, introduced by the central manager.
Ya, but I think they are basically right, Apple basically has the "groovy" market (I guess they call that mind-share these days) whatever, so if you are going to release a non-Apple Tablet, it needs to do more and cost less. Not that different than the PC market.

Re:There is tech startup life after 40 on Sunday August 28, 2011 @07:00PM (#2935236)
Yes! I am 54, I started in a start up that got bought by a big company. I am still here, but feel I am much wiser and would like to try the start up dance again. Why not?
Re:NYTimes Doctored Photo? Person vanishing into Machine #3 on Sunday August 28, 2011 @01:14PM (#2934358)
LOL, Busted !
ya, this fix has been around a long time (came out for cell phone batteries back when cell phones used NiCad). FYI, the fix does not last, after a few charge cycles back to being dead. :(
Re:The Dead End Cult of Burning Man on Saturday August 27, 2011 @11:22PM (#2933187)
Sounds to me like a dweeb who secretly wants to go but no one will go with him because he is a dweeb. Dude, stop whining, if you want to go to BM just go, stop being a bitch.
Re:Ask Slashdot: Could We Deal With the End of Time Zones? on Saturday August 27, 2011 @11:07PM (#2933162)
we really do NOT need 4 times zones in the US. Why not consolodate to 2 (China spans 5 but standardize on one zone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_in_China) I am not one of those people that thinks every China does is groovy, but in this case they are on to something. I think that there is more comercial benefit to 2 time zones in the US that we get from daylight savings time, the time for which has come and gone. Why not just have East and West TZ's?
So that means your idea is good. If good enough another company may look around for something to compete with your competitor, that might be you. There are worse things in the world than being aquired by a big company (Google, Amazon etc.)
Re:Walking on a cube-shaped planet on Friday August 26, 2011 @09:01PM (#2930504)
hmmm, do you suppose such a planet might be made of diamond ?
All that seems like a big hassle. Why not just put the files that you are most concerned about on an encrypted USB stick?
