Even that "normal" cost is absolutely crazy.

> Stable Diffusion? Well, that’s free-ish. Problem is, you’ll probably want to run it locally, which requires a really, really beefy graphics card. I was struggling to run it on a Vega56 - a GPU that goes for ~$150 used now - so I went out and got a RTX3090 for about $1,000. If you’re already a gamer with a GPU with 8Gb+ of VRAM you’re probably good, but for most people this is a bit absurd.

I agree with the problem, on platforms like AWS you'll even need to send a manual request so they would let you use instances which can run SD. On the other hand there's already something like replicate.com, which allows you to run the SD like an API. I hope there will be more services like this.

Re:Snap launches its first drone on Thursday April 28, 2022 @01:13PM (#31195158)
I'm a bit surprised they don't mention Snap anywhere on the site except for a link in footer (something like "by Snap"). Generally I would expect much better experience from a single page website promoting one product.
Re:Django Garnett – simple multilingual models for Django on Monday February 28, 2022 @07:03AM (#30498954)
Looks very good, will definitely look into it more! May I ask, what was the reason for not using https://github.com/deschler/django-modeltranslation in your case?

Isn't Parker Solar Probe much faster than that? It's supposed to be going hundreds of thousands of km/h. [1]

When it comes to first principles thinking I've always liked this article from James Clear: https://jamesclear.com/first-principles.

Basically the same story here, I'm not using Bootstrap on daily basic anymore but it was a huge factor in the beginning of my career. I wish him quick recovery.
Re:TypeScript Features to Avoid on Thursday January 20, 2022 @08:14AM (#30008439)
Although I do understand the reasoning in the article, I completely agree with you.

Switching between Python and TypeScript/JavaScript all the time, using ‘#’ to define private field feels weird and I personally prefer more explicit way of writing code. Plus AFAIK the ‘private someField’ is common in other languages (Java, Scala,…).

Re:TypeScript Features to Avoid on Thursday January 20, 2022 @07:37AM (#30008107)
I've never had any issues with enums, namespaces or private keywords (can't speak for decorators as I haven't used them yet). Although I do understand the reasoning for using the '#somePrivateField' rather than 'private somePrivateField'.

But features like enums are part of the reason why we even have tools like TypeScript, because JavaScript lacks these features.

Re:1Password Has Raised $620M on Wednesday January 19, 2022 @09:44AM (#29994186)
I've been using 1password for years and so far haven't had any problem, all apps (desktop and mobile) work great, but I don't understand why they would need this kind of money, especially considering it's not free or cheap service.
