Backend engineer, most recently worked on the data backend (database and api) for https://apertureplatform.com/ , 4.5 years software development experience, with previous experience and degree in computer hardware engineering. I'm open and interested in learning (or re-learning) languages and technologies that I may not have used recently, and would prefer working either in a team with established practices, or with an experienced team leader with a solid plan to implement them (i.e. not as a first or lead engineer myself).

Just completed a coding bootcamp in full-stack web development, though I do have previous tech experience and my degree is in Computer Engineering. My preference is more for back-end development, and I am a very fast learner and am particularly good at troubleshooting/debugging.

Re:The Cost of Laundry on Monday January 30, 2012 @05:51PM (#3530966)
I'm surprised this isn't more common, but at my apartment complex the machines are all payed by card. They give you a special card for the machines, and you can put money on it whenever you want. It was like this at college too, but with your student ID card. The machines at college also had slots for quarters, but I only ever used that when I forgot to put more money on my card.
Re:The Fat Trap: Our Bodies Are Fighting Against Us on Wednesday December 28, 2011 @04:54PM (#3401561)
Insulin resistance is Type 2 Diabetes, whereas insulin injections are a treatment (not a cure) for Type 1 Diabetes. Despite the common name of diabetes, they're actually completely different diseases that share many symptoms. It's also possible to have both.

There's no time limit, but a 60% vote can force him to stop.

Edit: That's 60% of all Senators, not just those currently there.

Re:Poll: Allman or K&R Indentation? on Wednesday July 27, 2011 @06:10PM (#2814444)
I personally prefer Allman, but if I'm working with existing code, I'll use whatever style the code already uses.
Re:Woman Arrested For Not Letting TSA Grope Her Daughter on Thursday July 14, 2011 @03:55PM (#2764764)
Strangely, though I've flown out of San Jose, San Francisco, and Chicago since these new rules were put in place, the only security I've been through has been the same old metal detectors and carry-on x-rays. Even though I've been departing from major airports at busy times (Thanksgiving, Fourth of July), the security checks have all been fairly quick. I'm really confused about how inconsistently the TSA seems to be doing this.
I did that. Computer Engineering at Purdue. The only classes I ever studied for were the ones that I didn't pay attention to in lecture. I never took notes (this drove my teachers crazy in high school). There were only a few classes in which I got less than an A-, and only one of those was an ECE class (statistics; I couldn't make myself pay attention). All I did was go to lecture and do the assignments.
Re:Google Music Service on Tuesday May 10, 2011 @01:34PM (#2533370)
I'm not sure what I was supposed to see in that link, but I already figured that Audiogalaxy ran as a service, and that's not the problem. To clarify, I meant that I want to be able to have an app (not necessarily Audiogalaxy, just something similar) where I can input an address for a service on my computer (IP:port or URL), and log in directly to the service without going through any other servers (except DNS) at any point in the process. Nothing against your product, it's just how I prefer to do things. I don't even mind that much having to make an account to download the software since it's still in beta; it's just that since the music is already being streamed directly from my computer I'd rather have authentication happen there as well. I realize that an average user probably doesn't care, but I do.
Re:Google Music Service on Tuesday May 10, 2011 @01:18PM (#2533294)
I think I've looked at this in the past, and it's almost exactly what I want, but I'd rather be able to have a service running on my computer and be able to have the associated app log directly into my computer without having to have an account with someone else. Does anyone know any system to do that?

Re:Why Are Vendors Annoyed by this IAP Thing? on Thursday February 17, 2011 @12:09PM (#2231708)
It might be a browser thing, but on my system it's way more than just for justification at the end of a line. For example, here's how the first half sentence looks to me:

I was asked in a com-ment to an-oth-er post to ex-plain why my re-ac-tion to IAP isn’t just in-dica-tive of greed on the part of pub-lish-ers...

I just checked my other browsers, and Firefox is the only one I'd want to read this in. Chrome has a problem with whatever is putting in the hyphens, and IE is using some difficult-to-read script font.

Re:Review my startup: Tastebuds - dating for last.fm users on Friday December 10, 2010 @04:02PM (#1993170)
Great concept, and so far it looks like the execution is really good as well. However, I agree with rnernento about the gender icons. I see how they're based on the standard male and female symbols, but it's still a bit confusing, and not even slightly intuitive to someone who's never seen them before. I'm not sure what a better clever idea would be, but perhaps it would be best to switch to a basic M and F until another idea presents itself. Confusing symbols could potentially drive people away for no good reason.

Re:Ask HN: As a hacker, do you watch the World Cup? on Sunday July 11, 2010 @03:32AM (#1505167)
I don't, but the cafeteria at work (Nvidia) is packed during games, and a guy on my team said he could hear the cheers from upstairs.

Re:Why Chinese Is So Damned Hard on Friday May 21, 2010 @06:11PM (#1369094)
Interesting. The fact that there are no loops means that there might be something close to a well ordering of language difficulty.
In my microcontroller classes the professor has referred to this as interrupt driven, as opposed to a polling loop.
In Monty Python Fluxx, you can play "Play All," use "Bring Out Your Dead" to get rid of all your cards except for "The Cheese Shop" which you then play to win.
