Same here. Both copies I ordered were not working on arrival. I tried to switch the batteries but they were really stuck in there (can’t easily remove them without bending/breaking), eventually got them out and replaced them but one of the copies still didn't work. Reached out to the creator but he just said try swapping the batteries. I still think the idea of the book is great, just wish the execution and support were better.

I'm an experienced machine learning engineer, software developer, and author of 2 patents in ML/AI. I'm an EGBC-licensed professional engineer and I have a BASc in Mechatronics Engineering and 10 years of overall experience in software development. I've developed and shipped end-to-end machine learning products and features across different platforms (web services, mobile apps, and embedded systems). I enjoy building practical machine learning systems from prototype to production that have a positive impact on people's lives.

Thanks for your time.

Technologies:

DL/ML: PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, data pipelines, ONNX, TFLite, Scikit-learn, OpenCV, OpenAI Api, Huggingface Transformers, Librosa, PyWavelets

Mobile ML: Swift, CoreML, iOS development

Data science: Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Jupyter Notebook, Colab, Seaborn, Chart.js, Streamlit, Airflow, Dagster

Backend: Python, C++, Django, Flask, FastAPI, SQLite, PostgreSQL, REST, Docker

Embedded Software: C, Bare metal software development, TinyML, RTOS, Embedded Linux

Cloud: AWS, GCP, Linode

Clear and concise write-up, thanks for posting. I especially appreciate the comparative graph at the end.

In practice, I tend to use "method 3" most of the time as I feel it has the best balance of complexity and practicality while still being able to deal with label noise.

"Is there plan to support sparse NN influence on mobile devices, such as Arm CPUs?"

"Based on the amount of work for support, it's on our medium to long-term roadmap currently."

I'm not the author of this work. I just found it earlier today and submitted it. I agree it is awesome.
I like this, thanks.

Along the same lines, I thought this article is really good at building some intuition about the Fourier transform:

Re:Ask HN: Web vs. Mobile Build Time/Time-To-Feedback on Sunday January 10, 2016 @06:12AM (#10874952)
Have you tried React Native? I remember seeing a demo that looked like it supports hot-loading.
Re:Ask HN: Looking for robot toys/kits for young ones on Thursday October 08, 2015 @02:13PM (#10354775)
I agree, Mindstorms are really good. If they're not that used to programming yet they can start off using the graphical programming language (NXT-G). Then, when they're ready to really dig in, they can start using C.

Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman.

Feynman's curiosity and drive to learn new things is inspiring to me.

I graduated with a traditional engineering degree too and the start of my career sounds similar to yours.

Here's my advice: Pursue what you are interested in. If you don't you will always have a nagging what-if feeling in the back of your mind. Nothing is set in stone and if you decide later that the EE path is more appealing you can get back into it later.

It might be a little harder to switch back but IMO the reward is worth the risk. Since you're a recent graduate, right now is a good time to try stuff out.

Good luck.

To help build your intuition when learning math you might find these articles helpful [1] as supplemental material.

Re:How I killed app sales by going freemium on Sunday June 07, 2015 @04:08PM (#9676194)
After averaging $5.00/day for a year with my iOS app using a freemium model ($1.99 in-app purchase), I decided to switch to a paid upfront model just to test. It resulted in a sustained average of $25/day. That's a big deal to me and so counter to everything I read about freemium being the only way to go in today's mobile market.
Looks great, especially for your first site.

How long did it take you to learn Ruby/Rails?

Do you have prior software development experience?

This stream is fantastic even if you're not, or do not aspire to be, a game programmer. I find it interesting to watch someone's thought process as they flesh out their ideas and make something out of nothing.
Cool, nice documentation. I had to make something like this for my last app because I didn't like what was out there.
Re:Show HN: I Made an In-game Companion App for CS:GO on Wednesday December 31, 2014 @09:00PM (#8821893)
So far I've been promoting it on reddit and telling friends who play the game. I'm going to try and get some reviews done and reach out to some streamers on twitch. Do you play CS:GO?
Re:Show HN: I Made an In-game Companion App for CS:GO on Wednesday December 31, 2014 @04:26PM (#8821163)
Pretty good so far, thanks for asking. The CS:GO community seems to like it but it only launched two days ago so I'll need to wait a bit longer to get some in depth feedback. Need to do some price testing for the next few weeks. If there are any CS:GO players on HN I'd love to here your feedback/suggestions.
I would recommend learning Objective-C. For your first app, you'll probably be doing a lot of Google and Stack-overflow searches and the vast majority of results and examples are in Objective-C.

I would also recommend picking up one of the Big Nerd Ranch iOS books [1] as I found them quite helpful. Good luck.
