All I see from this article and the whole saga is pure sadness. The situation seems unfortunate but seemingly unavoidable.
Deep learning based systems are at least trustable as working animals I think... They share a lot of similarities. You can not know how it thinks, but you can train them, observe them, and then trust them to a certain level.
Re:Buying Influence: How China manipulates Facebook and Twitter on Wednesday December 22, 2021 @10:00PM (#29658173)
No they definitely don't pre-suppose so. They run ads for main revenue, and just think about what is the definition of ads.
Re:Advent of Code 2021 with PostgreSQL on Tuesday December 07, 2021 @05:26AM (#29470938)
I tried to complete all of them in Spreadsheet, so far only Day 5 is quite tough and Google Sheet could not handle it.. https://twitter.com/chenyuio/status/1467750483494273025 (Day6- in separate sheet to avoid spoilers)
Re:The anus is an evolutionary marvel on Friday May 21, 2021 @01:16AM (#27230746)
I am quite interested in the difference between people's intuition about things. The more complex a system is, the less I tend to think about it being designed.. It is just too beautiful to be a crafted artifact.
Re:Atlas, a hopefully better engineering IDE on Monday May 10, 2021 @11:50PM (#27114029)
This is rather a math-specific operation (type conversion on math operators), not the scope of general purpose language. A lot of dependent typed language can achieve this naturally and most languages with ADT can simulate this.
Re:Can I Email? on Monday May 10, 2021 @11:39PM (#27113970)
A commercial project aims for profit, not public service. The previous post explains why they are popular demands. And it is natural for commercial project to satisfy popular demands.
Re:Haskell language features and standard libraries in pure Python on Wednesday September 23, 2020 @12:53AM (#24563108)
In Python people are encouraged to follow styles for code as a communication tool between developers. If you just really want your code to "look nice" you can have things like this:

  def begin(*args):
    return args[-1]

  begin(
      func := lambda x, y: begin(
          z := int(input()),
          x + y + z
      ),
      func(1, 2)
  )

This is also a nice recent attempt on utilizing Python ecosystem and FP features of Haskell(Purescript):https://github.com/purescript-python/purescript-python/blob/...
Re:Clojure REBL [video] on Thursday November 29, 2018 @10:43PM (#18566481)
I was thinking of the exact same thing when writing my new project in Python, and implemented a poor-man's version using typing.NamedTuple. But my idea was mainly from the extensive records from Elm. Although Elm also have Maybe, but the idioms of "making impossible things unrepresentative" eliminates a lot of unwanted usage.
Re:React、Redux , Nothing to it on Monday October 22, 2018 @05:26AM (#18273267)
Bit of advice to you: I know you what to share your thoughts on this particular package. But this kind of post just looks like an ad and insincere.

(edit) PS: Make sure it is to scale when you enlarge images.

But the error message though...

That's the right bottom part of the Bayes' rule?
Re:About 56% of users dislike systemd on Sunday October 11, 2015 @10:17PM (#10372169)
Dislike is not usually the best measurement.

Next time try this kind of voting questions:

I use systemd and like it

I use upstart and like it

I use launchd and like it

I use traditional init daemon and and like it

30% of like should be quite impressive

Hi Douglas, I just finished my college and quite interested in RNNs and fascinated by their capability and potential. Should I go to graduate school to study it or I can play with it as a hobby. Do you have any suggestions?

Is it for SEO?
Re:On Mathematical Intelligence and How It Grows on Sunday May 10, 2015 @01:11AM (#9518912)
Just look at the SAT maths scores of different races. IMHO that the high scores of Asian students was due to the Asian cultures which promotes hard work.
Re:On Mathematical Intelligence and How It Grows on Sunday May 10, 2015 @01:09AM (#9518908)
It depends, Beta(3,3) is also bell-shaped.
Re:Why people don't use Fedora? on Sunday May 10, 2015 @12:42AM (#9518838)
Yes. Now I regret I upgraded my Ubuntu to 15.04 Since there is no support for cuda from NVIDIA, so is the Intel graphic driver. If you are using an OS without third party applications, I think it should be fine, but that is not the most case.
Other people have given very good suggestions. But just mention that there is not any first principles for mathematics, that is an active area for research for pure math.

There are a lot of layers of mathematics, the deeper you get, the more difficult it becomes. But for normal applications (like antenna design, machine learning, electromagnetism, cryptography etc), you don't need to get to the deepest level, which are mostly proofs for a formulation of the whole mathematics framework.

Unlocked.. Wasn't expecting more levels after 45 though.. Will there be infinite levels?
Re:The Myth of Chinese Super Schools on Monday November 03, 2014 @01:05AM (#8549532)
I am from China and I can't agree more. The mass-examination system seems to promote equality, yet the ignorance of individual differences led to the failure of discovering specialized talents, who are potential leaders and innovators of the future.

Bertrand Russell already pointed this problem 90 years ago(http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/13940), but the problem still remains till now.

Re:The Great Chinese Exodus on Monday August 18, 2014 @11:07PM (#8195885)
And you really cannot tell if the people there are less happy than people live in the US.

People now have much higher living condition the people in the past (say 18 century), but you really can't tell if you are happier than them.

Please.. Do the same for machine learning and statistics...
