This is fascinating but OCaml is a bit arcane for me…
If the response from the compiler/type system is the feedback signal for the loop, shouldn’t this work for any language that offers such facilities?
While we are sharing eye rollers.. I had this person plonk into our issues once with a “revolutionary” encryption technique. I wish I could remember the concoction he described.. Now that I’m trying to find it, it seems they deleted the github account. Seems like he saw the light, or got banned. Either way SNR increased and I’m all for that.
This is beyond shitty behavior, especially considering that most OSS folks do it in their free time… uugghhh.
IMHO Keyboard quality in thinkpads dropped like a stone after the 230s. It’s like Lenovo lost the plans for how to build those.
The keys in the recent ones are incredibly mushy.
I’ve been traveling from Hamburg to Barcelona by bike for the last ~6 weeks. Total is about 2700km. It surely could be done faster but I’ve met people along the way and did some work.
Also you get to connect with locals and nature along the way. Another thing that’s totally lost when you do the airborne thing.
Crossing an ocean is ofc a different beast but I’m also
excited for a re-emergence of blimps!
ps: I’ve created a few collections on Komoot with the routes, if any1 is interested in more details: https://www.komoot.com/user/1468572320030/collections?type=c...
As someone following beam stuff from a distance: why would I pick this over elixir/Phoenix?
ps: I did implement the v8 pretty-printer in go and it was a nightmare.. I’m sure it still has some corner cases that are not covered….
Glad you picked up on it. It’s not on the protocol guide yet but there are two or three new formats in discussion which all just sign opaque bytes. Wider adoption pending but the meta feeds is in JS already.
Here is the most recent one and it links to the other two as well: https://github.com/ssb-ngi-pointer/bendy-butt-spec
I can ignore the licensing for my personal stuff (and some work might be able to, too) but from a technical perspective I find the SPL translation layer and fs caching overhead much greater pill to swallow. It’s basically bolting on Solaris as a 2nd memory system just for zfs. I really hope this hack is recognized for what it is sooner rather then later…
Came here to make exactly this post. Thank you.
sorry to rain down here but multi-device support is not a feature of metafeeds at all. It only realizes partial replication. It's equally important to grow the network but strictly distinct, all metafeeds are on the same device.
multi-device is only spec'ed but not implemented in what we call "fusion identities":
https://github.com/ssb-ngi-pointer/fusion-identity-spec
also, the ngi team has nothing to do with planetary.
Not an export on this but I heard what blocked a lot of projects based on kindles was the proprietary waveform driver stuff to draw on the displays. Meaning that basic linux had supper inefficient redraw behavior compared to what the eBooks are doing.
What’s the situation here?
Does someone know if this includes the QuicTransport JS API?
Im still salty that Google scrapped the p2p mode from chrome, which could have been a nice alternative for webrtc, too.
The docs could benefit from a comparison against other existing projects, like cjdns, i2p or zeronet which all have “slightly” different trade offs.
Agreed. Haven't checked out the code but it might because of the text labels in the first example?
Last time I checked rendering text into a webgl context was basically reinventing harfbuzz or using a proper game engine like unity.
Edit: So a reactive way to lay over HTML which properly hooks into the 3d context doesn't sound beyond crazy, at least for web tech standards.
is it gone? Otherwise you just have to recover the .ssb/secret from your $HOME.
Out of curiosity: which UI toolkit would you like to see? Qt/gnome/..?
There now is a python and Go base and rust is starting as well.
The patchfoo tunnel is really just a stopgap for me until a native soltion is available. it’s also a good option for no having the secret on the device, though.
re size: you really don’t need _everything_ locally all the time. You can delete unused blobs easily, which take up most of the space.
It’s all very implementation specific as well.
I think this is by design. andre summarizes this as pull vs push architectures. you need to be pulled in by some1. SSB is not supposed to be _yet another global room_ but open a way for many small islands.
> I would like to see something more discussion/topic focused than user centric
hmm.. at it's core it's just a database (that syncs across the friend graph), you might find cel's work on git-ssb and ssb-npm-registry interesting. you could just as well make something like discourse ontop of it.
we are currently discussing something more _groupware_ like to remove the dependency on github for issue tracking.

how do you read 500 million tweets per day?
the idea is to only replicate who you care about+a couple of their friends.
> I want future generations to live in a world where 'the internet' isn't a thing that authorities can grant/deny.
_THIS_ is very much the spirit of SSB. :)
