Interesting. I'm having trouble with my amd laptop stuttering a lot. It is worse under load of course, but even without any I can see random input/output lag.

I wonder if it the root cause could be the same.

Can you elaborate on your "CPU drivers" issue?
Re:Cosmic DE update: System76's new Linux desktop environment on Tuesday January 31, 2023 @04:25PM (#34602399)
You'll be happy to know that system76 pangolin laptops are not clevo.

Can you elaborate how you find gas more convenient that an induction stove?

I've worked in a kitchen with gas and I found it awful. It was harder to clean, you had to be really careful to not burn yourself when you had to do a quick wipedown. Making sure not only that you turned it off, but that anyone else there wasn't forgetful either.

Induction like I have at home now is so convenient. I have no worries. It responds super quick to temp changes, it automatically detects if I have something on the stove or not, so no fear of wasting power. You can't burn yourself. The surface is flat and super easy to keep clean.

Yes, that is why I brought it up

It's nice to see more collaboration. With the apparent interest in bevy, is there any chance that you will try to integrate the UI project xilem with bevy? Seems like it could be a great fit, and if it happens before the bevy project chooses a direction the two project could probably both benefit. Bevy for the great xilem architecture and xilem from the big community of developers that bevy has

I swapped to caddy + conduit after running traefik + synapse in a docker container. Not having to deal with postgres db upgrades and docker is nice.

It is a little bit buggier because clients dont always adhere to the spec.

I'm sticking with conduit, but I wouldn't recommend it yet unless every user is ok with random bugs.

edit: I should say I've run conduit for a few months and before that we used synapse for maybe 2 years

I use this for my radeon RX 5700XT: https://gitlab.com/corectrl/corectrl You can use it for cpu as well, but i havent felt the need to fiddle with any settings there.

wow I'm really happy in-terminal advertisements didn't take off. Advertisers sure want to infect every aspect of our lives.
Re:OpenMower – Open-source robot lawn mower [video] on Thursday April 14, 2022 @03:30AM (#31024264)
Post needs to have the title updated. Even though it is called OpenMower it is not open source, it uses the CC-BY-NC-SA license. The readme of the project has been updated to remove the claim that it is.

Of course a person is allowed to license their software however they like. However, I might also note that creative commons is not recommended as a license for code: https://creativecommons.org/faq/#can-i-apply-a-creative-comm....

Re:Netflix Should Sell Ads on Tuesday April 05, 2022 @04:15AM (#30916507)
The comparison between a long ad break and a single minor product placement isn't a fair, I've never seen a single 5 minute ad for a car on TV. But I guess it does answer the question of how some people think.
Re:Netflix Should Sell Ads on Tuesday April 05, 2022 @03:50AM (#30916354)
Netflix shows are already filled with ads. I don't understand all these people who think they have an ad free experience watching on netflix.
Re:I'm a scam prevention expert and I got scammed on Friday April 01, 2022 @10:40AM (#30878492)
I got bitten by this bundle of reviews thing. Amazon was made available in my country some time ago. I went on there to buy video capture device to help convert my parents old tapes to video. I found the device listing I was looking for, with good reviews. Placed my order.

Then a counterfeit showed up, completely different from the spec sheet and the image on the listing.

I filed a complaint, but they wouldn't give me my money back unless I paid to ship it back to half way across the continent, where they sent it from. Despite them just sending me a piece of electronic waste rather than the real product. Nor would they do anything about the listing.

Never looked back at their scam website again.

Of courses they can, you just have to pay for your own meal.

What are you trying to achieve with your sarcasm?

If you have a job you can probably have a look at your ethics or anti corruption guidelines for a good idea of what is appropriate.

Re:Pass: The standard Unix password manager on Tuesday April 13, 2021 @06:01PM (#26799907)
it couldnt be easier to keep up to date across devices: pass git push pass git pull

there are also at least two browser addons both of which work very well for filling fields

Re:Pass: The standard Unix password manager on Tuesday April 13, 2021 @05:45PM (#26799753)
compared to other password managers which is just an encrypted database.

pass uses normal folders to store your website/username information so in that way it is less protected.

Re:Avoid Consumer Routers on Wednesday March 17, 2021 @10:52AM (#26492048)
I have a turris omina. I have no real complaints. It is way better than any other router I've owned. It is the only one I've felt comfortable to do anything fancy with.

I currently have mumble and a nextcloud server running on the router, and a wireguard interface.

I can't comment on any US ISP weirdness as I live in europe.

Re:Mitigating Memory Safety Issues in Open Source Software on Thursday February 18, 2021 @10:55AM (#26181304)
I know I'm only one person, but I'm a C programmer at my day job and I do all my hobby projects in Rust.

For me cargo, rust-analyzer, and lifetimes/borrow checker just makes programming so much more pleasant.

edit: I dont go overboard on the more advanced features in the rust language, and probably write more C idiomatic code sometimes, but I still prefer using rust over C

Re:uMatrix has been archived on Sunday September 20, 2020 @06:02AM (#24533010)
Noooooooo, why?

I hope this addon keeps working without patches for a long time, I absolutely love how it has improved my web experience. So easy to use.

Sorry I thought it would be obvious to anyone reading the article. My hope was that by setting expectations to where they should be, the terribleness of this corporate statement would be more apparent.

The only sacrifice Mitchell Baker admits to is firing people. Somehow the ones that stay are supposed to do more.

There is no statement that firefox should be the best browser out there to encourage more users to switch.

No rallying call against the ad industry which is internet users biggest enemy

All I got out of it is that they want to develop new services as a software substitutes and charge people for it, probably as a subscription.

"Fix the internet" then links your instagram. Seems like you are part of the problem?

Edit: Or maybe I have a very different view of what fixing the internet means. The peertube content sponsoring currently on the frontpage seems much more constructive to me.

Re:Librem One – A growing bundle of ethical services on Tuesday April 30, 2019 @01:44PM (#19790167)
I support their effort of making free software more accessible. But saying "no ads" and then lists PIA as the only other vpn when they have partnered up with them dishonest [ https://puri.sm/posts/purism-becomes-pia-first-oem-partner/ ]
Re:How Discord Scaled Elixir to 5M Concurrent Users (2017) on Sunday February 24, 2019 @08:55AM (#19238561)
I have the opposite experience. Frequent outages/voice connectivity degradation. Font rendering was broken on many linux distros for months. And now there has been some kind of crash for about a month and still ongoing where discord becomes sluggish and eventually closes over time. (If you have a game open it can crash within one hour)

Not to mention where an update randomly the noise suppression would completely mute your mic.

Re:It's not okay to pretend your software is open source on Tuesday October 30, 2018 @09:35AM (#18336276)
His problem with them is in the title of the post. If you want to do something that is non-free, don't call it open source or free software, both words have accepted definitions, by osi and fsf/gnu respectively. Your reply is entirely off-topic.
There's no need to be so dismissive of Stallman's point of view. He has a great example in your link where using they is ambiguous.

Saying it's not a big deal unless people make it a big deal is not useful. Many people say the same about assuming gender. Language and the way we express ourselves matter and affect the way we think.

So first off, your question is irrelevant to my original question. I asked specifically if something is never enforced why should it be a law. None of the replies to my question has even addressed that :(

Secondly, that is not what freedom of panorama means, it means you are allowed to take pictures of anything in the public space. See: https://expertphotography.com/freedom-of-panorama-photograph...

Thirdly, wikipedia has examples of litigations.

Fourthly, IP is not copyright. If you took a selfie with some top secret tech you signed an NDA not to reveal was in there you will probably get in big trouble

\/ yes probably

Pirating movies is not the only way to violate copyright law.

Taking photos of things without the correct permissions (freedom of panorama) sharing copyright protected things on social media

I don't know anyone who doesn't violate some aspect of the law.

Question for people voting keep current copyright law:

How do you live modern life without violating copyright law, or do you think it should stay the way it is but not be enforced?
