Re:Ask HN: What's a good 3D Printer for sub $1000? on Wednesday September 17, 2025 @04:14PM (#45280833)
I second this. I run an A1 on a separate IoT wifi network that doesn't have outbound connectivity and using nftables rules for forwarding can send prints from my normal network with minimal fuss.

I did have to play around and use orcaslicer to get the printer set up using the network printing and camera feed working.

The one issue I do have is that it seems I would need to connect the printer to a internet enabled Network to get firmware updates, because the firmware version I have is ironically the one before they enabled SD card updating lol.

Back to the original question, I've had this printer for about a month and have been printing virtually non-stop with very minimal complaints. Coming from an ender 3 it is absolutely night and day in terms of ease of setup and general usage.

Great post, awesome idea and implementation! Is is nice to hear about someone who recognized what they wanted work-wise and went out and found it (-:
Really great idea, happy to see this out there!
Good to find the bug regardless! I appreciated the succinct and not overly dramatic write-up. I don't think anything significant was claimed other than the fact that it is a kernel bug (which is significant in itself don't get me wrong).
RIP legend.

I am unable to drill down on my phone right now but presumably we can figure this out for other years thanks to the visionzero plan/project. https://sfgov.org/scorecards/transportation/traffic-fataliti...

Yes I know this site only shows fatalities but I'm assuming the data is there if somebody is able to figure out the API/powerbi stuff?

Re:Peer review is an honor-based system on Saturday January 13, 2024 @10:14PM (#38987077)
The answer to your question is just part of the whole sad story...

Promotion committees (hopefully!) know which journals or publications are low quality. If they are unfamiliar, they generally don't have time (or inclination) to verify the paper(s) or publication itself. Especially true when it's a slightly different sub-field than their own. So it often comes down to a simple count of pubs. That's usually all the credit they need!

Re:Show HN: Kali – Scheduling Assistant for iOS on Thursday October 12, 2023 @03:48PM (#37862230)
What's a simple example use case for this software? I understand "scheduling assistant" but what does it actually do?

Also, what's the AI component?

Google Phone with Location Disabled

This is just a random thing that annoys me to no end. I have my Google phone configured to disable location almost all of the time. Google wants me to enable my location all of the time. Recently I enabled my location for a single app, and then when I was searching on Google maps later I noticed it was still enabled. Maybe this is no surprise to anyone, and I admit I was only partially...

Ask HN: Holiday, English or English?

Should holiday be used in the American English sense or the British English sense? As a US English speaker, it annoys me when people who sound like me say 'on holiday' (as in "I'm going on holiday"). I think it's a British English pretention and is therefore pretentious.I don't care if a UK English or Australian/New Zealand English sounding person says it.Am I the only one who dislikes this?
