News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Agreed. Would be nice to know if it's trending for a good or a bad reason. Links back to HN and Reddit would help with that.
Sounds similar to what happened just recently at the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh's rare books collection: http://www.post-gazette.com/news/crime-courts/2018/07/20/Two...
Re:Neovim 0.3 released on Monday June 11, 2018 @02:48PM (#17287196)
Can't answer about copy/paste an NeoVim, but I just switched from vim -> neovim this week, and do feel it's a bit snappier. I also switched from syntastic to ALE for syntax checking and that made a huge difference as well.

For copy/paste in the terminal and vim, I usually have vim in a tmux session, and that has a few helpers to work with system clipboards. Not perfect, but better than vanilla vim's copy/paste.

One of the Pittsburgh papers just ran an excellent, in-depth article about something very similar, happening in one particular neighborhood of the city: https://newsinteractive.post-gazette.com/riding-od-road/

There were a couple of interesting Planet Money podcast episodes on this from earlier this year:

Re:Writing code doesn't mix well with oration on Friday November 13, 2015 @06:20PM (#10563085)
I was going to mention this same presentation, but you beat me to it. He does a wonderful job with the code, as well and keeping the material interesting, and he has a good sense of humor. I'm looking forward to the videos he's working on for Egghead.io.
If they mean closed source, that list could include Google +, Google Reader, Google Wave, etc
Although it does seem to be very slow to respond, https://voat.co/ seemed to have stepped in as a replacement at the last big upheaval. They seem to constantly have troubles staying up though.
Re:SX – Stack Exchange mode for Emacs on Monday April 20, 2015 @05:42PM (#9411040)
I did not, and assumed it was the actual SE site. My bad.

There's one in beta: http://vi.stackexchange.com/
Re:Capistrano's Borked on Tuesday January 06, 2015 @01:09PM (#8845950)
Well, it looks like capistrano itself is just fine, but someone took to adding spam on their Github wiki.

Page was timing out for me. Here's the google cache: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:S76Yg0P...
Re:America’s Toughest, Ugliest Warplane on Saturday December 06, 2014 @10:29AM (#8709352)
It's funny how just from the description - "toughest, ugliest" - I knew exactly what warplane it was. As a kid thirty years ago, I probably put together five different plastic models of the A-10 Warthog.
Re:Draft chapters of the Ruby on Rails Tutorial, 3rd Edition on Thursday August 28, 2014 @03:25PM (#8239187)
Well, that's odd. They have the wrapped characters in Mac Chrome for me, but not in FF.

Another comment says change deployed but they're still off in Chrome on Mac (even with a forced/shift reload): http://imgur.com/IIaUiav

I totally agree with chollida1. This is always the first tutorial I point people at.

Is it possible to add "overflow: scroll" to the code sample blocks' CSS? I get a few characters flow down to the next line which is a bit ugly. A couple of examples:

first code block here (with a wrapped "g"): http://draft.railstutorial.org/book/rails_flavored_ruby#sec-...

Re:TextDrive shuts down on Monday March 03, 2014 @01:47PM (#7335535)
I collected quite a few events that have happened in the last few months that lead to today: http://billturner.github.io/2014/02/28/whats-happened-to-tex...
Re:What's happened to TextDrive? on Monday March 03, 2014 @01:45PM (#7335520)
Yep, I did earlier today when another TextDrive customer alerted me.
Re:What's happened to TextDrive? on Saturday March 01, 2014 @07:26PM (#7326980)
That's a horrible shame.
Re:GoDaddy Buys Media Temple on Tuesday October 15, 2013 @02:14PM (#6555211)
Your post looks good, but why do you link to your twitter post, which links back to a HN submission, which finally links to the post on your site? Can you not just point directly to it?
Re:SublimeGit: Full-featured Git integration for Sublime Text on Wednesday October 09, 2013 @08:15AM (#6520751)
I suggest this one: https://github.com/airblade/vim-gitgutter

It's quite nice, but I would turn off live updating, as that slowed things down a bit for me. Updating on save works perfectly fine.

Re:Hosted server status pages for startups on Friday September 27, 2013 @10:59AM (#6457310)
Is there a status page for statuspage.io? None of the images (other than graphs) are showing for me in Chrome. (Edit with example: http://imgur.com/Fgna1vg)

Re:Show HN: Amuzor, a new content curator we've been building on Monday December 31, 2012 @10:03AM (#4989456)
I've disabled all extensions, and the same thing happens. In fact, there's also a warning that "This site is attempting to download multiple files. Do you want to allow this?"

I'm on Mountain Lion, Chrome Version 23.0.1271.101

Edited to add: This happens on page load, before there is any interaction with the page.

Re:Show HN: Amuzor, a new content curator we've been building on Monday December 31, 2012 @09:51AM (#4989416)
Visiting in Chrome on OSX, it started a download of the SoundCloud widget HTML.
Was it this? https://lobste.rs/
Re:My next text editor on Friday August 10, 2012 @05:36PM (#4368386)
I'm curious as well. I'm able to do everything and more in Vim/MacVim that I was able to do in TextMate 1. Sure, it may not look like a "native" app, but I don't see how that should be an issue. You want to focus on the text, not the pretty box around the text.

Edited to add: Granted, a lot of the niceties have to be installed after the fact as a plugin, and are not built in. Where with Sublime Text 2, perhaps a lot of those things are there from installation.

Re:Show HN: Ruby on Rails Bootstraping on Saturday June 16, 2012 @09:07AM (#4120560)
Yes, indeed. The RailsApps project resource has kept up to date with the recent Rails updates, and has many different templates based on testing, DB, etc: http://railsapps.github.com/

And like another commenter noted, Rails 3.0.3 is _very_ old. Not sure why that's being used for something new.
