Re:In LLM era, can software startup survive? on Monday November 02, 2026 @04:15AM (#50334623)
Just because I can bake bread at home doesn't mean I do.

It takes time, it takes me away from my actual job within my business, and frankly, the bread from the bakery is pretty good.

Customers will pay for something that's of benefit to them. That hasn't changed.

You are living in a bubble

The maintainer isn't getting paid enough to react with that much speed.
Fake comments everywhere too.

The majority of developers don't work in that type of environment. The "for developers, by developers" type company is where this is true, but for the rest of us, we're engaging with non-technical stakeholders who are experts in their own domain, while we are not experts in that same domain.

That short paragraph is your skill, essentially. It's the way you like to work, or the process that you like to follow.

Forgive my ignorance, but if you're not paying off the right people, how are you lobbying for change?

What's the mechanism, if not handing people cash and benefits if they support your cause?

I agree. It's so disheartening to hear Ivan in interviews talking with passion about what he built. And it's truly impressive!

But wow, how do you stand a chance in stopping anyone when your code is all there freely available in the browser

I find the models conceptually design the structure, then fill it up with text.

This leads to 'fixing' the amount of text areas it needs to fill, so it works to a constraint of having to fill a collection of text areas instead of outputting the message that would otherwise best suit.

My way to combat this is to start by refining the words/messages to be put on the canvas before letting the agent try designing something.

What does reality look like on this nowadays?

My initial thought was desktops generally run 24/7, with laptops running when in use. At least for the customer at the market intersection for this type of product.

This is the opposite of a Google AI as summary in the best way.

Thank you for slogging through the slop to bring the human angle

Re:Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production? on Saturday September 05, 2026 @07:01AM (#49575325)
No,I'm saying I use an LLM client to do what I would usually do with a mouse and keyboard. You're confusing tools with permission and process.

I also use it to mark tickets as closed, and create new tickets from recordings of support calls.

None of this means the LLM does it while I'm off doing something else, or without me initiating it

I work with several small businesses, not a multi department large corporate.

Re:Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production? on Friday September 04, 2026 @09:36PM (#49572231)
I can give you two examples:

In my company I use it to manage multiple Microsoft 365 clients. I control the server and keys for clients and manage azure roles, each of my technicians get permissions based on their azure role in my tenant.

In another company I work with, they use it to manage multiple tenants in a construction software platform.

Practical example: I can now ask Claude to grab the new user request that was emailed to me, and create the user and email the client back with details.

I think something people miss about "just using the API" is that managing keys and git repos is not something regular people do. The learning curve is too steep.

MCP SSO/OAuth and DCR means non-technical users can just paste in a URL and sign in, like they do with everything else.

There is some debate as to whether Homer was an individual or actually a title used by multiple authors.

I actually built a calculator around this to help someone figure out if they would save money by switching to 3 hour free plan.

https://solarsharercalculator.com.au/

This is a really cool concept. The mailbox at its base is just a specific type of data store.

I haven't looked at the code. How are you dealing with projects scattered across different environments, are you routing those notifications yourself back to a central imap store, or do you have several different stores?

Yes, you need to be a company and potentially have done some learning tracks (the latter is something that has changed back and forth over the years).
An idea that came to mind. Focus on makers with customers first, offering them a marketplace that intends to help them grow, by bringing designers who need them.

It's like bringing two working sides in and finding the third side to bootstrap.
