it goes against anthropic‘s terms of service, and people have had their Claude accounts banned for doing exactly this.
Re:Typesafe AI raises $870M at $7.5B on Saturday October 10, 2026 @10:36PM (#50039284)
To be fair, there are still many jailbreaks for instruction tuned models. Surely less than before, but it could be because models got smarter (Claude often "reasons" that something is fishy even if it appears in the prompt or appears like a system prompt).
Re:Typesafe AI raises $870M at $7.5B on Saturday October 10, 2026 @10:34PM (#50039269)
I remember those days and I'm glad to see another one who's been in the industry since the very beginning :) I was quite sad when davinci-003 was taken away; still remember the green-yellow-orange-red highlights the OpenAI console would make for log probabilities of tokens and all the cool things we could do with a pretrained model.

In my courses, I teach students about that era by using gemma 4 (pretrained) and showing how you can emulate a conversation even on something that wasn't post-trained for chat.

Re:Deno Is Joining Cloudflare on Friday October 09, 2026 @09:32AM (#50020311)
Yup, Bun is at the mercy of Anthropic, and we know the extents they go to protect their competitive advantage.
Re:Deno Is Joining Cloudflare on Friday October 09, 2026 @09:31AM (#50020286)
Kinda feels like a rug pull, similar to Bun.
Re:Remove and Disable Apple Macos27 AI Models Tool on Sunday October 04, 2026 @04:32PM (#49957519)
Saying that Siri "works" is peak Apple fanboism.
Re:Remove and Disable Apple Macos27 AI Models Tool on Sunday October 04, 2026 @04:21PM (#49957430)
Oh, things are about to get worse with the new macOS "privacy/security" measures. They are going to curb agentic workflows even more. I don't know how Apple just finds new ways to annoy developers, but we're in a minority after all. Of 200 million Mac users, probably just up to 1 million are developers, and the rest are normies who can't tell when they should authorize or cancel the pop-up.
Re:RacketCon Is Saturday on Thursday October 01, 2026 @11:59AM (#49923440)
I'm curious: does anyone really care about Racket anymore? In general, does anyone really care about esoteric languages anymore?

With AI, we have converged on a set of languages. For the web, it's JavaScript or TypeScript. For backend, it's Go and Rust. Pretty much nothing else can get picked by AI if you start a new project. If you even like a language like Elixir, there seems to be less and less incentive to use it in production when AI can replicate a lot of its features in Rust for one-tenth of the cost and 10 times the speed of Elixir.

I'm saying this as someone who is designing a programming language, and for me, it's just a lot of fun, but I also know I should not hope for my language to take off anytime soon.

I'm curious: in the age of AI, where you can literally tell your clankers to work on something, why do you even care about the longevity of open source projects? There are several projects that are abandoned, and I have resurrected them for my own use cases without any issues.
This article assumes that this problem did not exist before AI. Especially in large companies like Google, the number of people who actually knew what they were doing was relatively small. The vast majority were just piggybacking on other people's work, which I absolutely hate. At least AI has made this obvious, and the difference between people is now their taste, which, for the majority of people, is bad news.
Re:I Switched to Brave Browser on Monday September 28, 2026 @12:15PM (#49880366)
I've been enjoying Brave for a long time, and recently I have been using their AI sidebar connected to my own local server, which is so pleasant to use. I can ask questions about a web page or other things. I also like that using Brave has reduced my dependence on ad blockers because Brave itself is really good at blocking ads. In fact, there are some that don't get blocked by uBlock, but then Brave catches them. Not to mention that YouTube is completely ad-free, and the software isn't as bloated as Google Chrome.
Surprisingly, increasing user hostility is a filter of users' tech savviness and IQ. I doubt most HN dwellers will tolerate price increases or ads or anything like that. They can pirate shit, and they can block ads. They're better off compared to the rest of the population who is not tech-savvy enough or smart enough to bypass these user-hostilities. These companies basically extract revenue out of people who are relatively poor.
Re:Key symbols we lost to time, pt. 2: The Mac side on Sunday September 20, 2026 @11:42AM (#49776951)
I wonder why people stopped adding symbols to ASCII. The number row on Macs is just these characters:

    ~!@#$%^&*()_+
And every programming language uses a subset of these. But why these symbols? Why didn't people add more symbols to the keyboard?
Re:Small Programming Tricks on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @12:11PM (#49729206)
This reminded me to ask: To what extent are people still coding by hand these days? In my profession (academia), literally no one codes anymore. On one hand, it sucks because the joy and fun of programming has been replaced by constant agent orchestration tasks, but on the other hand, it's hard to go back to the way things were before because the productivity gain is so good.

I remember learning a lot of these programming tricks over the years. They would give me happiness: learning something new about nvim, or some new shortcut in the Fish shell, or a new Vim macro, or the difference between 1 bracket or 2 brackets in Bash scripts, etc. But now it seems like all of them are irrelevant, and I wanted to see how others think about the situation.

Nvidia is full of shit. Leatherman thinks Astra = AGI.
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @05:30PM (#49634664)
yes, the cringiest thing in the entire show.
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:18PM (#49631012)
They're still as cringe as they've been for years; with fake hand movements and marketing-pilled bs postures.
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:18PM (#49630991)
Steve Jobs would roll in his grave due to lack of symmetry in this.
Re:Learn Programming with OCaml on Saturday September 05, 2026 @04:07PM (#49580196)
This. The other comments ignore the fact that we're humans and can't just learn things for the joy of it unless all our needs are taken care of (which is never).
Re:Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem on Friday September 04, 2026 @05:47PM (#49570627)
AI ≠ crypto.
Re:Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem on Friday September 04, 2026 @05:35PM (#49570512)
For now. That, too, will change in the future.
Re:Grok Outage on Thursday September 03, 2026 @01:48PM (#49553883)
And fully useless.
Re:Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @02:22PM (#49525851)
And yet, despite this, the quota limits went down by 17%.
Re:Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @02:21PM (#49525834)
At this point, I don't believe a word from Anthropic employees; you guys have lost all the goodwill that you accumulated over months last year.
No I'm not, and you're not worth my time.
