I don’t think there is any point tackling food inflation without tackling rent inflation (by extension house prices). The rise in rent/mortgage has hit people way harder than any increase in food staples, you could even double the price of eggs, cheese and milk and it will still have less impact on cost of living than a 20% rise in rent/mortgage. A person I know was paying 700/month mortgage in 2020 and is now paying 2400/month, and this isn’t an atypical story in London.
What’s currently the best static typed language for web development?
lol these are meant to be ironic comments, seems you are taking them far too seriously. Look up Erdos’s story to understand his irony.
I didn’t meant it in a way to diminish how clever he is. Just the bit about dropping out is overstated relative to what came straight after.
The title is less surprising if you consider that straight after dropping out to be a poet (in high school) he effectively started getting one to one tutoring from a field medalist for three years in his late teens to early 20s, to practically living with the medalist.
You will then love Paul Erdos sending a colleague an earnest letter saying he was “praying for his soul” for publishing a paper in the Journal of Applied Probability.

This kind of militant snobbery for pure math is common with the greats and shouldn’t be taken personally.

All media attention is currently on tanks and nuclear weapons, but I am wondering if the Ukrainian war will be remembered for ushering in the age of drone warfare.

Not diplomacy or government action, it simply helps if you are the sort of nation whose travelling supporters volunteer to help clean up their mess in stadiums after their matches in international tournaments. Contrast that with away supporters of other nations (looking at you England :D)

Good point. I am wondering what are the specific reasons say Java or JS don’t suffer from this, and hoping for rant-free responses that don’t turn into language wars.
Complete aside it is interesting that he announced his result in Peking university given that he has been vocal about his dislike of the Chinese communist party.

it is very tempting to go to dragons den even if you made it. Basically getting a 10 minute free advert on prime time BBC.
Wouldn’t house prices go down if you make it harder to monetise RE via rental? Say by increasing rental income tax or banning buy-to-let?
Not being snarky but if a rich person owns multiple flats that she is renting out, and you force her (say by jacking up wealth tax or banning buy-to-let) to sell the majority of them, how is that not helping with house price and rent inflation? My point is that you are right the rich don’t consume that much in terms of buying eggs, but they buy a hell of a lot of assets that eventually drive inflation (the more real estate they buy, the higher house prices go, the higher lumber and copper prices go,…) Am not an economist just trying to reason using common sense so might have missed something…

Symmetrically someone like him transitioning from quantum computing should imply something negative about the state of quantum computing.

Wow that is very impressive in this climate may I ask what is the category of the business? I am guessing it is not in any of the fashionable current spaces (blockchain, retail logistics, fintech,…)
Re:Review of “Ask HN: Predictions for 2021?” on Friday December 24, 2021 @05:49PM (#29678534)
tbf some of these are quite contradictory no way anyone could have predicted them and not look like a fool, which is a sign of the crazy time we live in.

Evergrand and Lira collapsing with the markets barely reacting for example.
