We’re using a year old chart to have a pulse on trends in a very fast moving market place?

Yeah I support their choice, because as you say it is their property after all.

Amplifiese the impetus for the counter balance of open weights.

Re:Show HN: HakTok – TikTok for Hacker News on Monday November 02, 2026 @09:04AM (#50336931)
This funnels my attention to one story at a time and I can’t get an overview of a breadth of things and then choose where to focus my attention.

Have you considered how to solve that?

This does not prevent Anthropic from reverse engineering using their internally available models.
This is The Guardian fermenting anti-data center sentiment, rather than doing interesting investigative journalism about worker conditions in Europe, even something as basic as comparing worker experiences, risks, injuries across industries or countries, etc.

Those comparisons could for example contextualize and frame whether the conditions they report on are abnormally high, unusually low, or average.

Sounds almost too good to be true. Has anyone tried it?

Because then you can't collect donations. And you have first prove yourself to be able to contribute to those projects. Because you want to make a name for yourself. Because you want to cast a big umbrella over unrelated software, except for the fact that they got started by this "movement".

Don't fall for it.

Build stuff. Skill honing comes from doing. Expertise does not come from reading books.
Wouldn't that cost more?
Re:Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy? on Sunday November 01, 2026 @06:18PM (#50330925)
What I find amusing is people asking for advice on buying an appliance on this site. Not bad, just an unexpected pattern to my eyes at least.

It's like every 3 months someone asks some variant of this question.

Samsung Frame is esthetically pleasing, high picture quality.
Re:Empires of AI – By Eric Schmidt and Niall Ferguson on Sunday November 01, 2026 @06:05PM (#50330832)
Eric Schmidt should give the book away to every single adult in the USA, free of charge.
The author appears to be comparing Apple's revenue against a measure closer to retailers' gross margins rather than their total consumer sales.

The Economist had an article early September "The jobs apocalypse is postponed. An AI jobs boom is here" - https://www.economist.com/finance-and-economics/2026/09/04/t...

I stand corrected.

Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @02:37PM (#50328918)
Wasn’t his character’s power teeny tiny compared to those who ruled the Federation?
How is comparing energy usage of a facility like a data center to a weapon that killed millions of people many decades ago an illuminating comparison?

It is like comparing a banana to a chair.
