Re:Repair cafés waging war on throwaway culture on Saturday March 17, 2018 @10:51AM (#16607199)
Buy less stuff but nicer stuff. And fixing them instead of throwing them away if they’re broken. If you can’t fix it you never owned it.
Re:Teach Yourself Programming in Ten Years (1998) on Tuesday March 13, 2018 @11:40AM (#16577023)
Old post but a classic one. Reminds me of the 10,000 hour rule of gladwell’s book outliers

APM role at Google (started by Marrisa Mayer?) is only for fresh MS CS grads. Anyone knows more details please let me know if I'm mistaken.

Seems like a defensive move against Google's Nest Hello video doorbell https://nest.com/doorbell/nest-hello/overview/ no?

I wonder how this list changed in the past 10 years. Time for a new list PG?
Re:Learning to program is getting harder on Friday February 16, 2018 @07:54PM (#16398093)
As many others, I also disagree. Back in the day, laptops are more expensive and less capable. Now you can program everywhere with laptop and wifi. More importantly, sites like SO makes learning to program so much easier than before. Back then, if you don’t know somebody you might be stuck with some silly issues for a long time. Not to mention Windows had frequent blue screen of death.
Re:Ask HN: What will you teach your children how money works? on Friday February 02, 2018 @11:12AM (#16291640)
And crypto currency now that they will live in a world full of it
Re:Could Self-Driving Trucks Be Good for Truckers? on Friday February 02, 2018 @11:09AM (#16291612)
Ultimately, yes, but just like the workers who tried to destroy machines that took their jobs during the first industrial revolution, truckers will need a bit time to adjust to the driverless world
Worked for me. what? Bypassing the paywwall is this simple? Does this work for other news sites with paywall?
If it’s done with respect to people’s privacy and able to reduce/deter crime, why not?
Thanks for letting us know about it. Wow this is way before Snowden...
Re:Ivy – A static website generator built in Python on Monday January 29, 2018 @09:46AM (#16257760)
I tried Jekyll with github and it's awesome (until I can't fix certain details). If Ivy can integrate with with github that'd be awesome!
Re:Blockshell – A minimal blockchain learning CLI on Monday January 29, 2018 @09:42AM (#16257735)

Re:Show HN: Find a co-hacker for your project on Saturday January 27, 2018 @11:28AM (#16246778)
A lot of people are in need of a partner / cofounder including myself. However just like dating, this is a hard problem to solve. I hope this helps!
Re:Moving efficiently in the CLI on Saturday January 27, 2018 @01:18AM (#16245102)
I always wanted these! I’ve been using cmd/alt and arrow keys by accident many times but no luck. Thank you!
I see your point. However, many things work in small countries like Switzerland where the population is more homogeneous and highly educated wouldn't work in large countries like the US with a more diverse population. Moreover, the tax rate is also quite different. Public transit like trains require tax money. However, car buying is more individual's decision. Unfortunately, raising taxes is quite unpopular in the US.
Re:Amazon Go and the Future on Tuesday January 23, 2018 @10:32AM (#16214308)
Once other super markets adopt automatic check out, shopping at supermarkets would be a lot less bad~.
Not a fair comparison. Train is more suited for China since car ownership per capita is lower. Between cars and planes in the US, it’s hard for trains to compete. High car ownership rates in China would be bad for the environment given the large population. So, nice cars in the US, nice trains in China
You mean Asset Under Management or AUM?
