Tim Cook has been in charge for ages.
And if all of us stopped using credit cards, the credit industry would fail to catastrophic effect. Support your credit card company by going into massive debt. It's for the economy.
"I don’t find that using Clojure making the overall process of writing new code faster. My thinking/typing ratio is much higher though. I think the reason is that I have a huge confidence in Java refactoring tools and my abilities to morph the code towards where it should go. In Clojure, if you start writing code there is no ceremony and within two minutes you realize that your first idea was dumb and your data structure should be totally different and it drives you back into the thinking phase."
I'm not sure that convinces me to try Clojure. To me less typing is great, but only if it still makes sense and I don't have to come at it a few ways before I get it right. That is probably why I never took to Perl. It just looks like garbage and I couldn't get past that.
NY keeps saying it has a good startup scene. Why wasn't it mentioned?
Make money, get more customers than you can handle, then quit school. Or, why not transfer to a decent school to get your MBA? If you are that interested in business and you are young, consider it. If you are that unmotivated about Physics, you should get out.
Whew. That makes me feel better.
"From a very subjective point of vue and from what I heard, Haskell is a node.js done as it should be."
I think you mean: "From a very subjective point of view and from what I heard, Yesod is a node.js done as it should be."
"i feel emotionally invested in the product since it was my idea, but he put a bunch of time into it"
Ideas often aren't worth as much as execution.
How about 50% of valuation - valuation of his 5% share?
Not sure the best way to get business valuation is an online form... but here's one: http://www.caycon.com/valuation.php
:)
"Then we protect the container from any outside disturbances while the people attempt to bring the problem to a solution."
imo, this is why Scrum often falls apart in teams, because many teams aren't protected. This devolves into them saying that they are using Agile methodology, when in fact they really are using WTF methodology.
"To prevent someone from accessing Siri and taking advantage of what you thought was your own private, personal assistant, go to the Passcode Lock screen and disable access to Siri on locked phones."

"If this service was only to accept Bitcoins, then the value of Bitcoins would be backed partly by computation power -- much in the way that it is currently backed partly by drug trade."
There is the problem, imo.
B.S. It didn't support it because they never planned to include it in the 4S. Apple can get more money buy selling both 4S and then the 5 later with 4G.
Good points. I'd add: There is a good chance that HN users that read your post are not your demographic; it is made of of a mix of tech entrepreneurs (people that don't have a company but wish they did, or 1-2 person company CEO/CTO) and other IT professionals/developers. This may be a place to get helpful critical feedback from a technical and small tech business sense, but is not a good indicator of what others outside that realm think.
Well, it sucks. Better to fix something that sucks early on.
DuckDuckGo needs to change their name, imo. Secondly, they need to reduce the number of links you have to click through to get to a site you are looking for. The disambiguation step takes too long.
This isn't just a problem for interns. Some jobs are just like that. They won't lay out what you need to do. It can be frustrating, but it is also an opportunity to learn either to function under frustration and duress or how you react to that. Learning about yourself otherwise may not happen until much later in life (i.e. midlife crisis). However, a smarter thing to do is to get a job that is more well-suited. Life is short.
From what I've heard, this has not been confirmed completely.
Has confidence, but not over-confident. Obviously knowledgeable about the work to be done, but not vaunting.
Someone that looks like they could potentially handle tasks on their own, be a good apprentice, and that you won't have to spend time arguing with to get them to do something simple.
Basically an intern should be a humble worker that gets the job done.
Interns come to work the first day feeling like they will be valued and a part of the team, but are hired because they are seen as cheap labor by the employer, and once they get there are usually not treated as a "real" employee. So they need to get work done, but in a way that doesn't rock the boat.
511: 'Unknown clients then have all traffic blocked, except for that on TCP port 80, which is sent to a HTTP server (the "login server") dedicated to "logging in" unknown clients, and of course traffic to the login server itself.'
Ugh. Couldn't this be more generic?
Sorry to be harsh. Go Luke!
SSL handshaking causes more traffic. It may be compressed, but small pages like the Google main search page (the heaviest hit) may show an increase in traffic, even after compression is factored in. Here's one place where HTTP vs HTTPS is discussed, and a few quotes:
"Servers that are heavy on serving a fairly small set of static pages that can easily be cached in memory suffer from a much higher overhead... SSL handshaking is the major cost of HTTPS."

Agreed. Duplicate info (why do you need to show the text "Color" if you show a white and black iphone with white and black under it also, and what is up with the wasted space.

I just dialed a friend 3 times in a row by accident in the period of 10 minutes. What is your way to avoid butt-dialing, and how well does it work?Suggestions I've read about are "just lock your phone", for Android: unlock pattern, Call Confirm app, Tiny Call Confirm + app, iPhone and others: pin lock.I still think having a clamshell phone was the best way to avoid butt-dialing, though.
HTTPS = more overhead than HTTP, so this is going to increase network traffic everywhere that uses Google that has people logged in for Gmail, which is just about everywhere to some extent. It will be minor, but could still have a detrimental effect.
Noticed that the Kin Two/m was left out, which has an 8 MP camera. :)
