News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Xlab

Fun fact: after spending 20+ hours during weekend on waltier, running all suites, I was so burned out that I just yolod almost full article via fable.

Supposed to be a hand-made blog post but I had no hands left yesterday ;)

Following a hot topic of putting WAL on S3, initiated by Cursor blog post.

We ran an identical CAS write-ahead-log workload against AWS S3, S3 Express One Zone, Tigris, and Cloudflare R2.

Benchmark results available.

I get the concern, but how would you get AI features without actively sending context to 3rd parties? At least the policy is transparent: doing ai stuff will process your code.

But aside from that, Trylle will implement BYOK and even "bring your own endpoint" pretty soon, that means you'll have modern way of doing software without sacrificing your privacy rights to big labs.

There are some free platforms for git hosting that don't use AI. Trylle is specifically about augmented software development cycle.

You can try Codeberg or Upd.dev if you have allergy for AI accelerated development.

Landing page will mature, right now all brain power of the team went into ensuring that is has very solid github action compatibility while also not bankrupting our pockets.

I will steal this to make a local-first version of https://microterm.dev for macOS :)

My idea is to have unified environment across all targets, so the only thing that changes is speed and amount of RAM.

Re:Show HN: Local-First Linux MicroVMs for macOS on Sunday February 22, 2026 @05:28PM (#47115440)
it's the other way around, everything is in the cloud now (upload your files to us, we are privacy respecting, bla bla)

So it's good that the product actually highlights it is dealing with local hardware only.

Show HN: Microterm runs Linux VM in any browser tab via WASM, RISCV64 emulation

https://microterm.dev/

Microterm is a fully compliant Linux virtual machine that runs in any browser tab. It is designed for real development and operations workflows, not demo-only terminal output. You can use it on desktop, tablets, and phones, including iOS home-screen PWA installs.Under the hood, Microterm combines Restty (libghostty + WebGPU) web terminal rendering and a TinyEMU-backed Alpine Linux guest on...

Show HN: Free egress public buckets on Railway and others

https://railway.com/deploy/public-buckets

Hacked together a service in Go https://github.com/xlab/cdn-s3-go that routes content request to any arbitrary S3-compatible bucket. Some infra providers are offering free egress, but buckets are only private (hello Railway), and not geo-distributed. An L4 balancer will cost a fortune (hello Cloudflare).cdn-s3-go solves this by looking up objects, generating a pre-signed URLs and redirecting the...

Re:Cross Compilation with Go Snippets on Friday September 04, 2015 @10:22AM (#10170611)
Huh yes of course it's all commercial but I thought I could add my own examples to that gist since there's much more cool stuff possible with Go+C interop!

A have a couple of such gists too, the idea was to combine them since you've decided to share this one. It's up to you to decide though.

Cool stuff, is there any way one can contribute?
