Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Monday November 02, 2026 @04:16PM (#50343880)
The frontier labs are known to ingest all publicly available data. Why would an open weight model be an exception?
Re:Tell HN: Scribd Breached on Saturday October 31, 2026 @01:37PM (#50318186)
It's a pdf archive; their idea is to scrape pdf that are public, then charge you to download when they are no longer public.
Re:Gemini 4 Carbon on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:37PM (#50277569)
If you don't have a general release date to announce then STFU. An undefined "coming soon" just makes people feel excluded and angry.
The Canary islands do not have space for a lot solar. There is some empty desert on Fuerteventura, but the other islands all flat ground is already used.
Trump administration banned import of Chinese inverters unfortunately.
Re:New iMac with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @12:00PM (#50261243)
Looks like they it still comes with a "magic mouse", of course the only thing "magic" about it is having a worse sensor than a $5 Logitech.
Pointless having a camera so small if you need a tripod everywhere because it has no image stabilization.
Re:Show HN: Steal My Bitcoin on Monday October 26, 2026 @01:58PM (#50248078)
It was explain elsewhere, server not was vulnerable for the first 19 hours. That's why it says hacked in 19 hours not 38 hours.
Re:Show HN: Steal My Bitcoin on Saturday October 24, 2026 @09:59PM (#50227521)
Or it's a classic crypto scam, the server is not vulnerable.
Re:Show HN: Steal My Bitcoin on Saturday October 24, 2026 @07:20PM (#50226488)
For all I know, it's a straight up scam. Someone already sent more bitcoin to the address to double the bounty.
Re:Show HN: Steal My Bitcoin on Saturday October 24, 2026 @05:24PM (#50225481)
You have not proven the key really is on the server. From a game-theory point of view I have no reason to believe it is there, and thus no reason to attack.

The animation of the cursor distorting the art like a black hole is fun.
Re:AI is a tool and using it well takes skill on Monday October 12, 2026 @07:06PM (#50064305)
I've learnt more since the advent of LLMs than I did in the 10 years prior. And it's not just me; that is most people's experience with LLMs. But most of those people would also concur with your apocalyptic thinking. AI is the apocalypse for thinking, except for me, only I am smart enough and experienced enough to maintain my cognitive ability while using LLMs.
Re:QGIS bans AI assisted contributions on Monday October 12, 2026 @07:45AM (#50054961)
It's the end of open-contributions for one specific repository, that is all. It only covers QGIS, the UI application, not GDAL/GEOS and the other libraries that give it its functionality. Additionally, in the past few years the number and popularity of new open-source projects that do accept open contributions far exceeds the few old ones that do not.
This one is made by Russians. Their government has bigger problems to deal with. They turn a blind eye as long as Russian companies are not targeted.
Re:City building games have a Soul Problem pt.2 on Saturday October 03, 2026 @02:28PM (#49946557)
Much of what is suggested could decrease texture memory usage. If you add a masked dirt material on top of a surface, you can often decrease the resolution of the texture of the base material underneath thanks to the added detail.
That doesn't make sense; every game has a depth buffer, but not every game has motion vectors.
Re:GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @02:42PM (#49898357)
I'm on both $20 plans. Got more out of Anthropic these last few weeks. But the value proposition shifts constantly.
Re:Nvidia wants to put a watchdog chip next to every AI agent on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @12:21PM (#49895910)
The actual headline is "Nvidia releases software platform to stop AI agents from misbehaving" ?

And the article contains no mention of a chip, its about a sandboxed browser from Nvidia.

Did the article totally change, or are all the comments here just engaging a fictional headline instead of the article?

Re:Toyota is finally taking its best-seller electric on Friday September 25, 2026 @03:43PM (#49849023)
The weakness of the Yen does a lot for Toyota. You can pick a new Corolla for US$14K if you are buying in Japan.
Re:People Hooked on Vapes Try a New Way to Quit: Cigarettes on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @12:23AM (#49796772)
You can get Propylene Glycol or vegetable glycerin and vape that.
Doesn't work.
HRTF spatialized audio should make your meetings shorter through more efficient communication. It's not about "bonding". For example in a traditional online meeting, it's very difficult to interrupt/interject but than can be done naturally with good spatial audio.
Re:Steam Frame starts at $1059 on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @10:32AM (#49713147)
All of the components are out of stock in France. i.e. there are 10 different Out of Stock buttons on the page.
Re:Steam Frame starts at $1059 on Monday September 14, 2026 @02:06PM (#49701244)
Wish Valve would make enough of something so that everyone that wanted one could get one. I wanted to get an Index headset when they launched that. I would check the Steam store page every few months, for 5 years. Every time it said "Out of Stock". It's still out of stock in France today. They design great products, but are useless at getting them produced in quantity.
Re:Clay Mathematics Institute on the Navier-Stokes Problem on Sunday September 13, 2026 @10:42AM (#49684534)
That is not the narrative given in the OpenAI announcement. They claim to have started working on it after "we heard rumors that two Millennium Prize problems had been resolved", on September 1st, that "we later realized was related to Levent Alpöge" on Sepetember 6th "After the completion of our full project and lean verification"

That does stretch the reader's credulity. I think most people find it far more likely the rumor was related to Anthropic all along.

Re:Clay Mathematics Institute on the Navier-Stokes Problem on Saturday September 12, 2026 @11:23AM (#49673253)
They said they started working on millennium problems after hearing a rumor someone had found a solution to one of them. That's just bad taste. It indicates negative motivation rather than positive motivation from the start.
Re:Clay Mathematics Institute on the Navier-Stokes Problem on Saturday September 12, 2026 @11:15AM (#49673186)
No, it is not. Proving things without comprehending them built much of human civilization. Comprehension is a relatively new fad that came along in the 17th century with the scientific method.
I don't get it. Surely if you were developing novel biological weapons, you would not use a hosted AI service where Anthropic can read what you are doing. And, why would you need to? Any chemistry graduate could make you dozens of highly effective, proven chemical weapons and explosives.
