regret all you want. this is NOT a gender issue. It's a classic disgruntled employee issue. it happens all the time, just with less media attention.
Re:Follow up to the investigation results on Monday April 28, 2014 @03:45PM (#7662440)
It's amazing to see how many people here are commenting and voting on emotion.

The facts are:

1) We have an ex-employee who is very disgruntled.

2) Said employee has laid some serious allegations regarding genderism

3) No allegation is provable nor has been proven

4) Other female employees interviewed have countered the allegations

5) Independent audit found no proof whatsoever, yet commented that some things in the company could use improvement (as with all companies, especially large ones)

This is not a sexism issue here guys. It's a typical case of an upset ex-employee -- it happens all the time, just with much less media.

Other Github employees even said she was really not good at her work, difficult to work with, didn't except criticisms, etc.

Re:Follow up to the investigation results on Monday April 28, 2014 @03:29PM (#7662317)
I could be wrong, but I believe originally the ex-employee claimed the un-equalism's were due to the fact she was female. As we know now, that's a load of bs... but the media is still running with it.
Re:Follow up to the investigation results on Monday April 28, 2014 @03:24PM (#7662274)
It won't be the last time an ex-employee paints a target on GitHub. A better and stronger response was needed here.
Re:Follow up to the investigation results on Monday April 28, 2014 @03:22PM (#7662266)
I'm rather disappointed in GitHub allowing one of their founders and top executives to be run out of town over a wrongful controversy contrived by a disgruntled ex-employee with a bone to pick.
Re:Facebook's git repo is 54GB on Saturday April 26, 2014 @07:07PM (#7653093)
If you are at the point where you are contemplating building your own dev-tool-everythings... then you've gone very wrong. Let the dev-tool guys make dev-tools, they are much better at it (it's all they do). Instead figure out how to make them work in your business environment. Facebook may have one of the largest sites on the web, and perhaps the most users... but their codebase itself is nothing special and does not warrant "special" tools. That's just BS and a measuring contest.

Hey Facebook! You're doing it wrong!!!!!
Re:Facebook's git repo is 54GB on Saturday April 26, 2014 @07:01PM (#7653078)
aka. a pissing match to show "they are too big for any standard industry tools". Really speaks to the level of (non)expertise employed at FB.
Re:Facebook's git repo is 54GB on Friday April 25, 2014 @04:44PM (#7648940)
1.5GB binary that includes their dependencies (other binaries).
Re:Facebook's git repo is 54GB on Friday April 25, 2014 @04:13PM (#7648784)
Linear codebase history? Why even use Git then... that's SVN stuff... we use Git now-a-days for a reason...
Re:Facebook's git repo is 54GB on Friday April 25, 2014 @04:11PM (#7648771)
That sounds like either poor Sys Admin'ing and/or poor documentation... SCM should not have "clutter" in it, otherwise you wind up with an all-day download of 54GB of dead or useless garbage. The Kernel's repo is only a few GB's and it has MANY more changes and much more history than FB does...
Re:Facebook's git repo is 54GB on Friday April 25, 2014 @04:03PM (#7648732)
unlikely. they probably have a very dirty repo with tons of binaries, images, blah blah blah. It's highly unlikely they actually wrote 8GB of code, and the 46GB .git directory will be littered with binary blob changes, etc. This is really just to "impress" two people: 1) People who love Facebook 2) People who don't know anything about version control and/or how to do proper version control (no binaries in the scm).
Re:Facebook's git repo is 54GB on Friday April 25, 2014 @03:59PM (#7648714)
I hope everyone realizes this is not 54GB of code, but in fact, is more likely a very public showing of very poor SCM management. They likely have tons of binaries in there, many many full codebase changes (whitespace, tabs, line endings, etc). Also not to mention how much dead code lives in there?
Re:Boycott systemd on Thursday April 24, 2014 @11:10AM (#7640757)
> base docker VM

you serious? criticizing systemd by promoting a totally new and un-tested software written by a single (for-profit) company.

> Also a lot of enterprise shops use daemontools and runit

provably not true. most enterprise shops run RHEL/CentOS which, to keep support contracts, runs sysvinit or in RHEL/CentOS 6.x ran Upstart. RHEL/CentOS 7 uses systemd and is not going to look back. Don't forget, the "serious" distros have used sysvinit for a very long time. Then they tried out Canonical's Upstart for a bit and decided it was not a step forward, but rather a step to the side. Now they have landed on systemd for very good reasons.

Re:Boycott systemd on Thursday April 24, 2014 @11:01AM (#7640693)
Just pointing out it's not that difficult to "roll your own" linux distro. It'll take you an afternoon if you haven't done it before... and you can very well choose to keep using sysvinit if you want (my personal distro will use sysvinit probably until the end of the year when I have time to figure out how to integrate systemd).
Re:Boycott systemd on Thursday April 24, 2014 @10:55AM (#7640645)
I think the website is missing the legal disclaimer "Paid for by Canonical (because we're bitter)".
Re:Boycott systemd on Thursday April 24, 2014 @10:47AM (#7640580)
The Canonical fanboys are just upset they lost out on their inferior technology and now are trying to do everything possible to stall it. systemd is unquestionably a big step forward, Upstart is only a step to the side. There is a reason the serious linux distros (no, Ubuntu is not serious, it's a toy for newbies to use on their desktop) have all chosen systemd. There is also a reason some of them tried Upstart and decided it was not good.
Re:A Breakup Letter to Facebook from Eat24 on Saturday March 29, 2014 @01:13PM (#7492952)
I 100% support eat24 in their decision. Facebook is ridiculous now. I requested my "facebook archive" 2 days ago and still have not received my email confirmation with the download link. As soon as I do, I'm deleting my facebook profile as well. Goodbye Facebook. I hoped you would learn from mistakes, but I see you haven't.
