"Hacker News is a social news website focusing on computer science and entrepreneurship." - Wikipedia.

https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.

Re:Ask HN: How did you escape your safe 9-5 job? on Monday January 14, 2019 @11:17AM (#18904073)
Thank you. I'm also disappointed how people(millennials specially) find this days 9-5 jobs "outdated" or mark them as "meaningless" without even taking the chance to get one, or taste the struggle to make it's path to a decent job.

Re:What is free OS according to GNU? on Thursday May 17, 2018 @10:29AM (#17091509)
Freedom has different meaning by FSF-alike and BSD Communities.

GPL License Freedom is also an "enforcement". You cant "revoke" and make the software "less free" turning it into proprietary software.

BSD License Freedom is a freedom that can be "revoked" to make the software proprietary. It is also "more free" free cause you can do actually whatever you want.

I'm using double quotes in specific words cause it is up to you and your philosophy/lifestyle to decide what kind of Freedom you like most. You don't have to swallow the FSF pill and believe on all they put as right and wrong.

Chose the Freedom you want

Re:Ask HN: Is Telegram better than WhatsApp? on Friday May 19, 2017 @07:19AM (#14374512)
You feel more secure is not a good point. This needs to be technical of what kind of encryption feature is used, and not trust on "pappers" of the software creator, or try to feel safe just by using your "spider senses" while using the software.

And remember: You liking or not, WhatsApp is a Facebook developed software.

RING is the only real secure chat software, with DHT, peer-to-peer discovery and encryption. https://ring.cx/

Re:Why don't companies use FreeBSD as much in production as Linux? on Monday August 08, 2016 @07:08AM (#12246784)

And that is a 2-way road, where some people cry on forums and maillists anyway, that companies tend to use BSD and not return to community. There is no need to paint it as a win-win situation(distribute proprietary derivate software) when it clearly has its problems too.
