I read that as "I on don't trust media" the first time.

Re:Spotify is killing the open podcast ecosystem (2020) on Tuesday April 20, 2021 @02:48PM (#26879324)
I dont think Spotify cares about the 0.1% of users that bring their own MP3s. It's a shrinking market. The growth is all the people who never even heard of an EmPeaThree.

I think back when I ripped my 350+ CDs to FLAC. In retrospect, it wasn't worth it.

A return policy is not a rental program. Yes, this is abuse.
National Sales Tax - tax the purchase of goods at services. Then it doesn't matter where the corporation has their HQ. No import tax needed.
Re:Justice at Spotify on Tuesday March 16, 2021 @12:06PM (#26478646)
How much of Spotify's revenue goes towards songwriters, labels, distributors, publishers, as opposed to the artist?

I'm guessing the NVDA part was a joke.

In 2009, NVDA was around $10. It is trading 40x, over $400.

He's not making a mathematical definition of the areas. 'area' or 'box' is a simple description that everyone can understand. And the map projection used does form squares.

Sure, China did some bad things and shares some blame. That said, we did figure out China was lying in January, but did nothing nothing for the next six weeks (besides an ineffective travel "ban"). We have some culpability as well.

If a company is too big to let fail, it's too big. We should have blocked any mergers or acquisitions that made Boeing larger.

For now, give them a loan, as much as they need, interest free for 10 years. No more bonuses nor stock buybacks until the loan has been repaid.

Per the article:

He saw his PCP same day, they examined him, but said he should go to the ER.

He called the CoronaVirus hotline, which also said he should go to the ER.

Agreed, the app was a stupid idea.

The backup plan was to call in. However, they only had 12 callers ready to take calls, for ~1800 precincts. At 3 minutes per call, that is 7+ hours to call in the results.

This is a state law, not federal. Iowa state law has no standing over other states. If the DNC decides Nevada would be first, what options does Iowa have?

Iowa cannot enforce that law outside of Iowa.

IMO, the most telling point of this is when the author rejected a security patch because it was not creative enough. He was more of an artist than an engineer.

What was the patch? It was very strait forward, simple, uncreative change, intention was just to remove unsafe not to fix existing code. I believe software development is one of the most creative work we do, and creativity is part of why we love software development, why it is fun. Especially if you combine it with real world projects constraints. “creative constrains” could be source of very interesting solutions. Being on the edge of your abilities is super fun. So uncreative change felt boring https://github.com/actix/actix-web

Re:Australia first to test new lithium-sulphur batteries on Monday January 06, 2020 @01:13PM (#21971442)
Then divide the battery pack into two (or more) packs. The battery controller then uses one pack to exhaustion, then switches over to the other pack. Normal charging will only charge fully depleted packs. This would reduce maximum range. So add in a charging override for an occasional max distance drive.

Re:Will We Run Out of Helium? on Thursday December 19, 2019 @04:06PM (#21839299)
You can't speak about Supply (running out) without factoring in Demand & Price. They are all linked together. Especially when the resource has recreational uses.
Re:Will We Run Out of Helium? on Tuesday December 17, 2019 @11:24AM (#21815100)
Supply will equal Demand at some price. If prices rise, some recreational use will go away.
Two different things here. The person I replied to said that every reddit was ignoring this specific article "I searched this article on reddit". My point was to show that that specific article was covered across 37 different subreddits. My conclusion would be that this specific NYT article didn't get much traction on any subreddit, due to the lack or relative upvotes.

That said, there are dozens of FISA posts on many of the political subreddits, typically linking to others sites, not the NYT article. The T_D has been very vocal about the FISA abuses, as they should be. Apparently T_D can't link to this specific article due to subreddit specific rules. So I can't really compare this specific NYT article. Plus comparing the # of upvotes across subreddits has a lot of other issues.

IMO, this recent abuse is due to the lack of transparency in the entire FISA process. There shouldn't be secret courts ordering secret wiretaps on Americans with no oversight. The whole program should be scrapped. Tell your reps to vote it down next time.

I tried searching for the article on T_D. I'm not getting any results (due to the quarantine?).

I have no idea how to compute active users. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the karma number meant anything, relative to each subreddit.

IMO, pro-Trump/anti-Trump news is keeping many other important topics off the front page.

Re:We Just Got a Rare Look at US National Security Surveillance on Thursday December 12, 2019 @11:06AM (#21773024)
So far, the article was posted in 37 different subs. The highest upvotes:

/r/politics - 155 karma

/r/libertarian - 49 karma

/r/conservative - 34 karma

I'm not trying to make any case for any side here. Just providing some numbers.
