Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @12:48PM (#50327852)
Patrick Stewart or the show writers? I'm not a fan of equating TV character personalities to actors.
Re:Everyone Has Email. Nobody Uses It Right on Sunday November 01, 2026 @08:27AM (#50325492)
> Facebook can shut down tomorrow. Twitter can rebrand itself into oblivion. But email? Email is forever.

Yet author is using Gmail, curious. Even if Google doesn't shut down, there have been many cases of unexplained account terminations.

I also wonder if author ever heard of identity management and SSO.

Re:Show HN: TitleArt – Make text like it's 1997 on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:53PM (#50251592)
This could be genuinely useful for web design because it's easy to setup layout reflow using all the sliders. I hope you'll open source it.
And a calculator outperforms LLMs at multiplication and division...
Re:Dolly – scroll animations in plain CSS on Sunday October 25, 2026 @12:05PM (#50233049)
scrolljacking is the absolute worst cliche in all of web UX
This website likely uses a semantic vector space like CLIP or BERT space. Which is based on co-occurrence of words, it doesn't have a harder logic behind it. Soviets probably had cylinders in some machinery which is why it pulled.

Re:Show HN: High-quality duck audio synthesizer on Saturday October 17, 2026 @05:40PM (#50135405)
i suppose this is an environment noise generator, with duck calls just being recordings. i wish you could control ducks individually, after i threw peas they just hang out near mic forever
Re:Making Chicken Transparent Using Dorito Dust on Saturday October 17, 2026 @10:51AM (#50131674)
Some exotic fish and frog species are completely transparent. So one might wonder what makes meat opaque. Then wonder how to get the opaque out of other meat. I don't know where doritos comes in.

Re:Show HN: Google Maps Scraper MCP on Friday October 02, 2026 @11:20PM (#49941123)
Being able to scrape google maps must mean that OpenStreetMaps are just as good, since someone can just pull new changes periodically

In fact, OpenStreetMaps often have better data than google maps. So one should just use that in call cases.

This website is ugly slop by the way.

Re:Gitea 28.0 on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @05:03PM (#49914425)

Re:I can't tell who's teaching who anymore on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @11:55AM (#49910628)
It's the same emotion as if you're enjoying ska music subculture, but can't dress in its style of clothes, because people will think you're a skinhead.

You'll be judged for riding in your old Tesla car, because people may think you're a fan of modern Elon.

It may sound like a stretch, but I feel it's virtually the same thing — style.

> I take out em dashes and replace them with commas or full stops

Yeah that's your problem. I like my em dashes. You don't need to be ashamed of your style just because it got mainstream. Doesn't matter whether it's AI or a fashion fad. It's like liking a music band before it gets popular on tiktok.

Re:Show HN: Jev Plays Pokémon Red on Friday September 25, 2026 @04:16PM (#49849343)
This is kinda chill to have in the background. I wish there were livestreams showing live reasoning of top models which are currently trying to solve cancer or whatever. Imagine the pogs in chat when it does.
Re:Ask HN: What self-hosted apps do you use daily? on Thursday September 17, 2026 @05:30PM (#49746829)
I self-host RSS-Bridge and an RSS reader.

RSS can replace checking all your subscriptions (youtube, subreddits, etc.) to just one place. I tried a lot of RSS readers but it turns out you'll only like the one you make for yourself, that's why there are so many.

Sorting feeds into categories (I have channels for photography, sports, memes etc.) feels like bliss and is otherwise impossible to do.

You can also quickly vibe code RSS feeds for websites that don't have them.
