It will also help diabetics. Rice is one of the foods I struggle with as the carb release can take longer to enter the bloodstream than the insulin that is injected.
Lock your credit reports and call your existing open ended credit institutions to request whatever additional security mechanisms they offer. Some offer specific code words, etc.

Locking a credit report is different than freezing. So be sure your choice matches the terminology used by each bureau and your situation.

Also request an identity theft PIN from the IRS (assuming you are in the US).

You may also sign up for one of the credit monitoring services through one of the bureaus that will send you notices about things affecting your identity.

React quickly to any odd information you receive about your identity and keep a detailed log about the events, who you talk to, and the nature of conversations.

You should also check to ensure that your identity hasn’t been used in any criminal matters. I’m not experienced in this area, so more research is warranted here.

While I understand your concerns about the credit bureaus, and agree, they are really the central point for collecting and utilizing personal data. Locking those and monitoring your records will go a long way towards prevention and early detection.

Has anyone used the Remarkable 2? Amazon is also releasing the Scribe on November 30 that seems to fill your wish list (except for the calling home).
Re:Ask HN: Who Is an iPad Pro For? on Saturday October 22, 2022 @08:20AM (#33297699)
Yes and I sometimes do. But once again paying for a premium device just to use email and Remote Desktop isn’t exactly returning value.

If one can use the depth of specialized features for the Pro and is comfortable working within the iPadOS environment, then it is an awesome device. I just don’t consider the 12.9 Pro to be particularly good as a media consumption device, nor a particularly good overall device for my use.

I am considering downgrading to the 11 Pro or one of the consumer grade 11 models. Just haven’t decided that yet.

I use a M1 12.9 iPad for mostly work. It is a glorified email machine that I use for the Microsoft suite of business products (Outlook, Teams, Office, etc.). I can either use an iPad to directly work with these apps, or use a laptop to Citrix in and have a Remote Desktop. The iPad is really fast and the display is amazing. But, I would gladly give it up for the small Surface Go that I own personally, but the apps running directly on my hardware are not supported or permitted by my IT group. So I am stuck with the iPad. It is heavier than a M1 or M2 air, and doesn’t have the same full functionality. Again, I would gladly give it up for small, light and convenient. It really isn’t even good as a media consumption machine because of the screen format. But is everything on it a smooth, buttery experience? You bet. But it isn’t worth the money for the beauty of the screen. I bought it as a hope to utilize it as a single device, but the limitations of the device and lock down strategy behind the os limits its true depth of functionality (at least what the hardware would permit) and forces me to keep a mini running as a home server to remotely connect to. I regret the purchase, if you hadn’t guessed.

Non-financial payoff:

I learned to watch the room and listen to side conversations in meetings. I pick up on nuances and team dynamics that I can utilize sometime in the future.

I learned when to keep my mouth shut. Never underestimate the value of remaining silent and letting someone else prove how stupid they are.

I learned to trust very, very few people. Not very many people make it into Ring 0. Some people I trust with some things. Other people I trust with other things. But never anyone with everything (except family or outside of work friends). Most everyone at work is out for themselves. Most won’t hesitate to use you for their personal gain.

Financial payoff:

I learned to sell stock options.

How do you keep up with CPE requirements across all of the carts? Just the CPA cert alone requires a minimum of 40 hours per year.

What are your go to pdf documents?

Not looking for pdf management. Actual pdf documents. I’m looking for particularly interesting, enlightening, entertaining content. Nothing too deeply technical. Even a good short story will be most welcome.

What advice are you looking for? Fashion? Where to buy? Fit? How to wear a suit when coworkers don’t? My advice for fashion and fit is to find a picture of something you like and go to a reputable men’s suit retailer. They will help you ensure a proper fit and offer custom tailoring (which might not be optional). Get the suit tailored and give feedback as to how you like your clothes to fit. Take the shoes you want to wear with the suit. Allow the tailor to measure you and help you with the fit for your body type. When you pick up the suit after tailoring, try it on again to ensure it is how you expected it. If not, have them make adjustments. A suit that is uncomfortable stays in the closet. Pick out two different color shirts and two different color ties. Again, the professional at the store you picked can help with color, fit, and selection. This will make your suit more flexible. Be prepared to spend some extra money on appropriate accessories as well (like a belt and socks). Ask for a garment bag with your purchase to ensure you keep your new purchase in good shape while hanging in your closet. Dry cleaning is a must with a nice suit, but if your don’t expose it to harsh treatment (rain, wind, dirt, etc) you should be good with several wears before cleaning is necessary.
