This is a rare gem that delves into code that we probably won't be seeing much anymore. Thank you for the deep insight into a very specific usecase about React.
Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share some of my findings for scanning a chapter with the cheapest models and no reasoning vs frontier models and thinking.

Enjoy, I can answer your questions.

Bluesky isn't allowed in Texas without verifying your age with Kids Web Services (KWS). X doesn't have that requirement.

Show HN: Authrot – extract your story elements out of chapters and graph them

https://authrot.app

I've been working on this app for a couple months, because I needed help outlining my story being written on Google Docs.I kept adding new characters, and it was difficult for me to keep track of everything going on in the story. I wasn't organized at all.I do have a subscription to Claude, and it helps, sure, but it didn't exactly build a graph of all the story elements connecting together. ...

Show HN: Authrot – a writing studio that maps your characters, places and plot

https://authrot.app

Hi HN, I'm Joe.I built Authrot, because Google Docs and Word slowed to a crawl on my phone once my story passed about 25 chapters. I started with what I wanted, fast navigation between chapters, and scrolling that stays smooth however long the book gets. Then, I wanted the story itself mapped out into a graph of connections by characters, places, and objects, all referenced to a chapter passage...

Meanwhile, I'm over here hesitating to dump $10 into yet another LLM model to test their API.

Cancer can be cured in a lot of cases, its just so damn expensive and the treatment is beyond torturous that some patients cannot handle it. Stem cells are amazing. But we need cheaper technology to replicate them into the cancer destroyers they need to be, as well as find ways to ease the pain of that internal battle.
Re:Why is Google still serving dodgy ads? on Sunday September 13, 2026 @11:56PM (#49691808)
I am having this issue getting approved, and Google denies me every time. I last tried back in August.
LEGO created NXT-G for programming their Mindstorm NXT. It has since, in my opinion, been the best graphical programming I've seen to date.

It did have a slight learning curve, but 5th graders were competing just fine against high schoolers haha.

Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave at this atrocious design. Apple is lost without his vision.

The hard corners when its folded is a huge design breaker. The whole thing is THICK when folded. Jobs only added the bezel because it competed with the cases wrapped on phones. I don't see how any case will work on this behemoth.

I've seen what happens to the fold crease after a year, its a bit noticeable. It will degrade the prestigious quality of the brand.

Lastly, this copies all other fold phones. I'm surprised is all.

Re:Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B on Thursday August 27, 2026 @09:08AM (#49464331)
Brand name is hard to beat. HuggingFace is the defacto leader in open models.
I find it useful, and use it almost daily. Helps answer "how to" questions for working on my house, development or just general questions. If I need more info, I just look at the links or videos which are also right there.

To each their own.

Status quo changes at the speed of snail.
In web development, you mostly deal with data, sometimes you need to group that data, and some of these algos can help with that.

Most useful when you work with large datasets, if you can reduce a workload that takes hours into minutes or less, congrats, otherwise, you are forced to wait the hours. Either way, job security.

Internet + Natural Gas + Light + Water + Home Insurance + Auto Insurance + Property Tax + Phone + Home Security + Car Gas + Credit Cards

A $350k mortgage with bills, is expensive. Will eat up a whole check if you don't make more than $140k/year.

Show HN: Built a soundboard for my haunted garage with AI assistance

https://theworstofboth.com/hauntedgarage2025

It's 3 weeks from Halloween and I decided to host a haunted garage at my house for our neighborhood. I drafted a layout of the garage, got donated decorations, spent $500 on amazon to transform the garage and found a great horror ambience on youtube.Oh crap, its 1.5 weeks away now, and I need sound effects. All the apps have prefilled spooky sound effects. None of the apps let me auto-play...

Re:Show HN: Verbiage, a Gemini-powered word game on Tuesday August 26, 2025 @01:05AM (#45022453)
This was actually pretty cool. It's similar to crossword puzzles in how you get a hint. Maybe its too easy though, I got it in 2 attempts. I'm definitely not smart lol.

Re:Scammers unleash flood of online gaming sites on Wednesday July 30, 2025 @03:03PM (#44738241)
I spent too much time trying to build one of these gaming portals, and they pop them up as a scam like nothing. Must be a team of people behind it.

The technology behind the scenes and UI design are all well made.

Is AI free speech?

Show HN: Made an app for streamers to overlay live Telemetry for Bambu printers

https://github.com/joetex/bambu-telemetry-stream-overlay

It works for my P1S, but could use help testing on other printers.I would love some help from a designer to make the stream overlay look sleek. If you don't have Python setup, no worries, I made a zip file that has a Windows app.exe to run the app.In the /static folder is the html/css/js files that let you customize the look and feel. There is a bit more nuance in using `this` in a named function that wasn't covered. Named functions defined in classes are scoped outside of the class, meaning they are not bound to the class. To use `this` in your named function, you usually have to bind it in the constructor using `this.functionName.bind(this)`

Arrow functions defined within a class are scoped and bound to the class automatically. Hence, arrow functions do not require calling the .bind in constructor, and you can happily use `this` inside arrow functions.

So who will develop the first Logic Core that automates the context engineer.
