Yeah, my thought exactly. Capital is the firm. Labor is the workforce. Wages are the return to labor and profit is the return to capital. Labor and capital are in eternal struggle for their piece of the pie.
Re:Why is AI generated language so hard to understand? on Saturday October 24, 2026 @03:47PM (#50224473)
Well that’s exactly the authors’ claim. Legalese and patents intent is not to facilitate communication but to maintain a claim under the most bad faith, hostile reading.

AI language, it seems, is optimized to support reasoning from the interior monologue.

A mature religious belief knows that the god that created the doctor also created the cancer.

As humans were more likely to celebrate the God who provides the cure more so than the God who creates the disease.

Is there adverse selection in reports of the callousness, incompetence and greed of US healthcare providers?

Three years ago, of necessity I became a big-time consumer of healthcare[1] and I can't believe I just been lucky that nearly all my doctors seemed reasonable and effectively treated me. Of the dozen or so doctors I dealt with only one left me with a bad feeling.

[1] Stage 4 renal cancer, successfully treated with immunotherapy and surgery at Perlmutter Cancer Center in NYC.

The way the US would leave a crater where the ICC was would not be militarily.

Go ahead, indict Trump. Trump, being the provocateur that he is, would travel to the Hague, or wherever else, and he would not be arrested. The ICC would do nothing and exposes its toothlessness as a performative political tool of center left Europe.

But it's largely the court of center-left European thinking. It's a political tool without teeth, and since none of US, China, Russia are signatories, it can only prosecute people without a great power sponsor.
Re:The Deeply Impersonal Personalized Recruiter Mail on Thursday October 08, 2026 @02:39PM (#50010087)
That’s what makes this so annoying. I don’t mind a template, but the fake personalization gives it a whiff of deception in a way a pre-LLM simple template mass mailing doesn’t.

Your book doesn’t seem very amusing.

But the analogy still holds.

The original authors of all the text, creators of the media and developers of the software did far more work than Anthropic.

They could get warmed up for it by first impeaching Pete Hegseth and RFK.

I don’t struggle. I find Dario and Sam disingenuous.

“Frontier models are so dangerous we need to slow down.”

Ok. Slow down. You’re the CEO, just do it. Oh, wait what you really want is a gov’t mandated oligopoly. Because there’s no moat you can find.

If you’re truly afraid, and want regulation, support nationalization. It’s the only way we can be safe.

My wife was from Reno, I was from NY. The week before we got married (in 1996) we were out there and her sister lent us a 1979 F150 at about 2O0k miles —- 3-on-the-tree, no air, AM radio, lap belts. The passenger door would fly open on left turns unless it was locked. I nearly lost my brother when I picked him up at the airport and forgot to warn him.

Maybe cause I was about to get married but I loved that truck.

Re:OpenAI agents carried out an undisclosed attack on RubyGems on Friday September 11, 2026 @08:17PM (#49667194)
Can we stop pretending that this is not intentional behavior by OpenAI?

We don’t need new regulation, we need to enforce existing law.

Re:Simple Is Not Small on Monday September 07, 2026 @11:57AM (#49599781)
I don’t know. This reads more like a “Clojure is great” post, and Clojure is great. But the author takes a swing and a miss on the Rich Hickey magic. The UNIX example is contrived (the number of occurrences in the order they occur?), and trying to redefine simple in a way that excludes UNIX pipelines doesn’t work.
This was a district court.
The argument is the choice of the plaintiff. It’s not the role of the judge to argue the plaintiff’s case and find the most compelling argument.

Article was really poor in stating this clearlly, to the extent it made no sense to me. Thank you.
Obvious answer is it's the AI singularity. Been nice run for humanity. So long everyone.

It's cool, no doubt, but why precisely is it important? I find the engineering that went into late steam locomotives fascinating and much more complex and scientifically designed than the casual observer notices. But building one would be very expensive and serve no other purpose than to delight some nerds (which is a fine result but unlikely to be worth the price.)
I don't know if it's causative, but that seems to coincide with the move from Southland Corp to being run by the Japanese parent Seven & i Holdings.
It’s no different than “a big ask” or a “tough sell”.
If what we think we know about the brain is true, then what we call reality is contingent on the majority of brains agreeing on it. That is, we'll call reality what my brain and your brain can come to believe independently. But that still means that what we know is just what our brains limit us to knowing, and it doesn't preclude something outside of that. You may argue, it's pointless to discuss something that by it's very definition is unknowable, but the fact that we can describe it by something in system (our language) should make us somewhat curious about it.

sigh Forty years later I still miss the dorm room discussions.

Congress (and state legislatures) pass laws, but don’t necessarily authorize the resources to prosecute all offenders, so prosecutors are given some latitude who to target.

IANAL, but my understanding is this: Malicious prosecution is a defense. Selective enforcement is not. The difference is for judges and juries to decide.

I enjoy, when arguing with friends, dumping an AI wall of text supporting my position and immediately following up with "What, no response? Argument over, I win."

I used CarPlay yesterday with Siri disabled. Am I missing something?
That is not my experience at all. To be clear, that is they were bad and they have gotten better. I’m also pretty strict about plan-then-code, so maybe that helps.

I realize it’s one anecdotal datapoint.

Imagine a city where the schools woefully underserve minority students. Despite equal budgets etc. there is a persistent gap, probably due to income gaps but that’s not the point. Within the education system there is no one institutional factor to blame.

Now imagine a civil service exam in that same city, entirely race neutral but resulting in a disparity because it tests general skills. The test is de jure racist when all it does is expose the poor education system. Because the education is so poor, the only remediation is to hire unqualified people. So you end up with a deficient civil service in the name of fairness.

There are other ways to examine whether a test or policy is racist.

GWB got heat for extralegal extraordinary renditions. Obama solved it by just killing them. I guess we can’t ask the dead guys if they’d prefer to go to Guantanamo.
