You had me until the whining.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:25PM (#50282380)
I liked the idea, and found it useful (but I have smaller fingers). The biggest issue was how buggy it was, especially in earlier laptops. If it doesn't respond (common bug), then you now have no function keys, screen brightness keys, etc.

The way you describe it, this release amounts to an extremely large and expensive Touch Bar.

In fact I do live outside HN.
> And I'm probably on the more amateurish end of AI development. As I learned these techniques from YouTube.

I think that sums up the "fleets of agents" approach fairly well.

I don't personally know of any software engineers using AI as "fleets of agents" in a "factory." Sounds like a nightmare.

They get aftermarket gold plating, diamonds, and that sort of nonsense.

I feel comfortable asserting most freelance professionals have outgrown a fear of "side-eye".
> We show respect by packaging folks out to live comfortable remainders of their life.

And in what way is this distinguishable from disrespect? There is some major assumption in your post that remains to be explained.

Re:A Man from the Future: Why Johnny Can't Stop Abstracting on Monday October 26, 2026 @04:49PM (#50250731)
Except that 'pisteuō' means more nearly "to be faithful to" or, one could even say, to enter a type of contract (thus the Greek construct 'dia pistis', two parties relating "through faithfulness").

Anglo evangelicalism constrained its meaning to something like "intellectual assent", for its own purposes (in my opinion, it made for better sales models) some time in the nineteenth century. And as you essentially point out, intellectual assent is fairly meaningless.

Do tech influencers never tire of announcing their incompetency in their subject area?

Addiction brings out the worst in people; they're suffering and only become aware -- keenly aware -- between "fixes."
I have an SGI O2 sitting in my closet. Unfortunately, I gutted the case with the idea of inserting a micro-PC, but I kept all the parts and hope to restore it to original state some day.

The lengths to which devs will go not to collaborate.
Would "I take sole responsibility" work better for you?
Re:Drupal is now light-years ahead of its reputation on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:01PM (#50188268)
It's very extensible. Take a look at CiviCRM, Give, and many other sophisticated extensions, not to mention WooCommerce. Drupal-based businesses facing a complex upgrade often found Wordpress could do everything they needed.
Re:SimCity, but with Permits on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @06:54PM (#50173810)
Is this a necessary hypothesis when we can explain the situation simply enough by cutting straight to "politicians [are] lazy, incompetent, or corrupt"?

Particularly if we define or replace "corrupt" by "extracting funds in every practicable way," which is observable behavior (regardless of reason or motivation) and which is _not_ covered in your explanation?

It's different, but evidently it's still schlingable.
> ... one need not work, need not get sick, need not die[.]

One of these is not like the others.

> Your brain is really bad at thinking carefully. You have to train yourself to think carefully despite how shitty your brain is at it.

What is "you" in this scenario if not your brain?

Re:Muse Spark Open on Thursday October 15, 2026 @01:43PM (#50107306)
So what makes Muse "very sticky"?
Re:Muse Spark Open on Thursday October 15, 2026 @01:42PM (#50107287)
"Muse Spark Open was optimized to run on Mac Studio with M5 Ultra, and together they’re the best way to run a powerful model on your own desktop."
Soon after these became ubiquitous in grocery stores, the manufacturer stopped using butter. I don't buy them anymore.
Re:Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) 2026 Cancelled on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @06:09PM (#50096128)
Very fair. Someone is disappointed and out of money. Still, there is a non-zero chance that attendees were extremely few; it's certainly happened in other cases. As long as communications like the press release are vague, we can't know.
Re:Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) 2026 Cancelled on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:34PM (#50082062)
Lack of interest, since attendee registration was "significantly" down.
Re:Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) 2026 Cancelled on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:33PM (#50082047)
According to the announcement, "individual registrations … came in significantly below prior years", so it seems few attendees will suffer financially.
Re:Mozilla Introduces Firefox Enterprise on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @05:16PM (#50078895)
Large companies' IT departments claim a lot of reasons for their policies. Often the underlying reason is unstated, and has more to do with convenience of governance or with sales relationships.
