Re:Ask HN: What's are your personal automations? on Friday December 11, 2020 @11:33AM (#25387562)
I have my coffee set to auto-brew at 6AM. :-O Such a life hack. No, it's not wired up to some stupid web interface, and I like it that way.
Re:Reddit Is Down on Thursday December 10, 2020 @04:59PM (#25379331)
Yup, it sure is. I'm getting a 504 Gateway Timeout. Oh well, HN is better anyway. ;-)
Downvoted? More like upvoted. THC is magic.
Re:Why some people suffer from a stutter on Thursday September 24, 2020 @07:43PM (#24584978)
It doesn't seem that this was mentioned yet. World-renowned mycologist Paul Stamets had his stutter cured from magic mushrooms. Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAR4yH6TbtA

This isn't mine. But I think this is an incredibly creative, enriching, project. Bravo to whoever developed this. These voices/words need to be heard the world over if we stand any chance to survive as a species.
Re:Ask HN: Your must-read HN post? on Monday May 18, 2020 @06:37PM (#23229196)
It's hilarious to see Mr. "I have a few qualms with this app" as the first comment.

"you can already build such a system yourself quite trivially by getting an FTP account, mounting it locally with curlftpfs, and then using SVN or CVS on the mounted filesystem"

Oh, thanks bro.

Re:Ask HN: Where do you get your news? on Sunday May 17, 2020 @12:00AM (#23209458)
NPR, BBC, The Guardian.
I'd say 45mins-1hr of cardio per day, and 3 days minimum of some sort of strength training.

I do cycling nearly every day and bench/squat/deads Mon-Wed-Fri.

> Marissa Mayer

Oh yes, the great inspiring Marissa Mayer, the woman who rushed into Yahoo! and banned work from home but for anyone but herself and and had a daycare in her oversized office.

And then proceeded to run Yahoo into the ground.

I'd prefer not to listen to anything she has to say.

But all of the engineers passed LeetCode, how could this be?

But their engineers passed leetcode so they're super smart /s
Re:Ask HN: How do I overcome mental laziness? on Sunday April 19, 2020 @09:06PM (#22920236)
It all comes down to mindfulness.

If you keep doing the same things, you'll keep getting the same results. Meditation can rewire you for mindfulness - and that doesn't always mean sitting and meditating - but everyone should have a practice. Get out into nature, ride a bike, learn how to play guitar. Work on something completely different than APIs/IDEs/OSes/hacking.

I also recommend THC. Weed candy in particular, when I take about 10mg, I get a constant flow of interesting ideas and correlations for hours afterwards.

When you attain that mindfulness it's easier to guide your mind where you want it (in this case, solving technical problems). Good luck.

WTF? Mind blown. And I've been hacking the web for nearly 20 years now.

What about alcohol or caffeine?

Just wanted to say it's pretty sad a company like PillPack even has to exist - it shows we're on WAY too many fucking pills.
Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2017) on Tuesday April 04, 2017 @12:04AM (#14029399)
Yeah. Precisely. I so wish I didn't accept the offer there; I had a similar offer from a more respected company (or at least, as not of an embarrassing company). Oh well, can't turn back time.
Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2017) on Monday April 03, 2017 @06:11PM (#14027686)
Just want to say - I don't recommend this company. A warning to all: Extremely clique-y and they'll fire you if the wind blows the wrong way. Don't be fooled by the "unlimited vacation" and "ping pong and arcade machines". It's a joke. Read the Glassdoor reviews.
