To add to this, shamelessly self-promoting, Notebooker (https://github.com/man-group/notebooker) is a neat way of scheduling your Jupyter notebooks as parametrisable reports whose results are presented in a little web GUI (either as static HTML, PDF, or as reveal.js slideshow renders)
Alternative data is non-financial data which can be tied to various securities.

Financial data, for example, would be EUR USD spot prices. Non-financial data (i.e. "alternative data") could be healthcare reports which you could theoretically couple to e.g. pharma stocks.

I have used jupytext (https://github.com/mwouts/jupytext) for this and it seems to work great - it outputs a separate .py file which is easily diff-able.

Out of interest, why are they scum? Never heard this before about LinkedIn.
Re:Netflix Downloads on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @09:28AM (#13070958)
This has been the differentiator between Netflix and Amazon Prime - very welcome news indeed. I do wonder how limited the number of allowed downloads will be, though...
This is absolutely fascinating - and stunning that it only took ~90 seconds to be infected. Turns out the source code is... open source:

This was surprisingly moving! notch is truly talented.
Not sure I agree with the terminology of the article (fast rather than quickest accelerating), but I thought this quote was special:

> Speeds like this offer more Gs than Earth, so the rate of acceleration is faster than falling. It can feel difficult to support your head and shoulders if you don’t lean back on the headrest.

Still at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, I suppose?
I guess that would be number of developers/machines they were using during development

There are already quite a few similar companies, such as Entrepreneur First (https://www.joinef.com/)
Re:British Government loses Article 50 court fight on Thursday November 03, 2016 @08:27AM (#12863401)
The UK economy was/is doing fine? Not sure you read up on all the facts.

>For the Americans out there, this is akin to Trump receiving a 52% majority by US voters (yes, 52% is still a majority, no matter how thin), and then the Electoral College deciding to vote amongst themselves instead about who becomes President: of course it would be Clinton.

Um, not really. It means that we are applying the law, not meddling... The prime minister doesn't get to decide what she wants to do regardless of whether it can pass in the commons, and an advisory referendum is certainly not legally binding.

One man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter...

Would you count WhatsApp amongst that list of apps?
Re:Show HN: Anonymous messaging with a 1km radius on Thursday October 27, 2016 @07:27AM (#12804220)
I would be careful about this. Could definitely be used for bullying by kids - would suggest you come up with a strong mechanism/policy for banning users!

That sounds like it was deliberately orchestrated by AT&T to me...
Re:Daydream – Google VR on Tuesday October 04, 2016 @12:54PM (#12636961)
It's a VR exclusive version of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" where you are a wizard (and therefore have a wand, too) and explore the Harry Potter universe.
Re:Music theory for nerds on Monday September 19, 2016 @07:07AM (#12530388)
I think people with experience in the field are just annoyed with her poorly-conceived assertions at the end, e.g. "This has got to be some of the worst jargon and notation for anything, ever." rather than pedantry.

But why would they choose to make things easy for us if we are essentially giving them the middle finger? We can't pick and choose what we fancy from the EU while simultaneously walking away..
Re:Reddit for iOS and Android on Thursday April 07, 2016 @11:04AM (#11447800)
Sync for reddit is very good! I have very few issues with it and it has the feature you mentioned out of the box.
This is nice - I hadn't even considered anybody but Labour/Conservative and this gave some flavour as to where their focuses lie. Disappointed that none of them want to expand LHR though.
This will be very interesting. The European champion is a 2-dan, whereas the World champion is a 9-dan. While Google beat the 2-dan 5-0, a 9-dan is expected to win 95% of games versus a 2-dan.
