Its pretty much real time data that can be used for trading on the electricity market.

This idea reminds me a bit of insulating concrete formwork, where you use interlocking bricks made from something like polystyrene to make a form. This is then filled with concrete to give it strength.

I couldn't take the article seriously after the suggestion that he was producing colours that are not seen on a natural rainbow and that the rainbow is wrong. The spectra for sunlight is almost complete in the visible region apart from a few small gaps where various elements absorb the light. If you look at a proper spectrum for sunlight you can clearly see the colours he claims are missing.

I should point out that the pifm code is a bit of a hack and does not properly reset the DMA controller when you stop running it. It will leave the FM signal active until you reset the pi.

What would the carbon tet even be used for? I can't think of a time when I ever used it during my chemisty degree, so for most things it could probably be replaced with another more sensible solvent.

It sounded like a bad description of drag soldering which involves dragging a ball of solder over the pins with the iron and relying on the solder mask and surface tension to make a good connection on each pin.

Re:Precious Ink – On handwriting

I use a Lamy Al-Star with a fine nib fitted. I find the choice of ink much more important though, some of the inks I've used feather a lot and others dry too slowly which isn't great for someone left handed.
The best ink that I have found is Noodler's, its cheap, comes in fairly large bottles, and has an amazing range of colours.
Edit: Noodler's website, http://noodlersink.com/

No, if you need to ask for phone numbers by using a facebook group you are doing it wrong. This just serves to encourage more people to do the wrong thing.
Re:SLR Camera Simulator
on Tuesday May 29, 2012 @09:56AM (#4037466)
The aperture on an SLR only closes once you press the shutter release (or press the depth of field preview button, but those are becoming rare on consumer grade hardware). If the aperture closed as soon as you changed it the camera would be unusable because the viewfinder would become very dark, and the autofocus would stop working.
Re:SLR Camera Simulator
on Tuesday May 29, 2012 @09:34AM (#4037363)
It needs to give you the ability to use flash lighting. Then you could learn about how you can use flash to give a scene a completely different look, for example by using a wide aperture and short exposure to get the girl properly illuminated but have the background look very dark.
This works because the flash delivers all its light in a very short period of time so it is completely unaffected by the shutter speed. So once the flash power and aperture are set to give a proper exposure on the subject the shutter speed can be adjusted to give different levels of background illumination.
