The implication is that they do it purely for tax relief and not as an appreciating asset.

If that was the case they would be losing millions each transaction.

Exactly. Presuming a 50% tax (highest end worldwide) rate and a full write off they spent 50 mil to save 42.5 mil on taxes.

Usually it’ll be capital gains income where they would be writing off which is a much lower rate. Example 20% in which case they saved 15 mil in taxes for 50 mil investment.

first 20% goes to gift aid in the UK so some countries you wouldnt even get full tax band.

Now tax free storage of art usually in ports is interesting but not some 100% write off scheme.

This did happen internally and with authors like Tom Clancy and Brad Meltzer they came up with scenarios and mitigation.

Also have the Red Cell unit made to mock attack US infrastructure and bases although they got a bit too real one time.

You can use Cloudflare access for internal which is tunnel + identity access management for end users.

You can put just ‘HMRC’ (UK tax department) on a letter (with paid postage) and it will get to them.
UK is not a part of the EU so it wouldn’t have to mesh at all unless I’m missing something?

They have a hosted on major clouds service called crunchybridge which seems reasonably priced.

Maybe a basking shark filtering masses plankton but it’s no great white.

A great white would have launched a GPT api competitor far earlier and recognised the search replacement use case.

GPT3 came out in 2020. People had used it as a search like function in 2020, we’re coming up to 3 years and only now they’ve acted to then bum rush into a competitor that’s demo tanked the stock?

What’s the worst thing Oracle has done aside egregious enterprise pricing?
>premium cards [are] commercial, corporate, or business cards issued by Visa and Mastercard

Revolut Metal (personal) is not one of these cards.

Commercial cards (business banking, business credit etc) are what these cards are and they have less regulation in the EU.

For instance no cap on interchange fees and they can show prices excluding the card fee and add that on at checkout for business card users.

You use Cloudflare for DNS but are moving over to S3 to replace Cloudflare?

Do you not mean Route 53, AWS’s DNS product?

Re:Apple HomePod 2nd Generation on Wednesday January 18, 2023 @10:30AM (#34427856)
Lights, Time, Timers, News, Podcasts/Audiobooks.

Asked Alexa today:

- ‘Can dogs eat apples’

- ’How far is it to <location>‘ ‘How long to <location>.’

- ‘How many calories does 100g grams of cornflakes have’

Just stuff not worth picking my phone up and typing for the most part.

Though just tried all 3 of them on siri and only how far/long is <location> gave me a voice answer (the other 2 were just search results).

Re:Apple HomePod 2nd Generation on Wednesday January 18, 2023 @09:30AM (#34426980)
Siri is the main issue holding me back from buying a homepod.

Alexa & Google just bypass it in cleverness while also understanding my accent way better.

The only major plus of Siri is tight integration into ios.

Easy to avoid, Just ask the GPT model how to avert this outcome.

Re:Stripe Tax on Thursday June 10, 2021 @08:35AM (#27459916)
Stripe’s product pages are so beautiful and cover the product features brilliantly.

Stripe tax should away the headache of being on the wild ride that is EU VAT as EU citizen.

Congrats on the launch!

Monopolies aren’t hostile takeovers.

It’s companies buying competitors for market dominance with no regulatory pushback that’s the issue.

Airbnb has around 7 million listings vs the clone with 0 listings.

It’s an apples-oranges question, these are just examples of OSS code not actual products.

Front running is illegal.

Its payment for order flow which is earning off the spread while also keep it tight and liquidity in the market.

The pie is big enough and also don’t think big cloud players and DO are after the same customers.

34% of the web still runs on Wordpress. A lot want somewhere cheap and easy to use with more power than shared hosting.
