Everyone know these things. What's the big deal?
Re:Verizon How is this even legal? on Monday August 22, 2016 @05:10PM (#12339473)
Mmm... If they called it "third-party router penalty" you wouldn't be wasting all this time with this.

Obviously they want to make extra money on top of what you pay for the internet. That comes in form of renting you a router or getting the money anyway with a fee.

The naming is wrong. It shouldn't be called "maintenance fee", but it doesn't look like there's anything you can do.

Why can't I downvote you... It's only showing arrow up

That looks like a MacBook Air clone.
I'm not a graphic designer, so I can't tell you what would work, but as a potential customer I can tell you that one doesn't.
Your enemy's enemy is your friend
Mmm... I'm not sure it works.
I don't get the logo :-/

I thought it was going to fall inside the teapot.
Re:E-paper is making it's way into museums on Friday August 12, 2016 @04:23PM (#12278527)
its.
So true.
Same here.

Management work is different, though. More about making decisions than being hands-on.

Are you going to deliver, unlike most hardware Kickstarter projects?
You need to have your own IDs IMHO, so that people can associate multiple accounts (ex., both Facebook and Twitter). Could you go with something simple, like a timestamp with microseconds or a timestamp plus a random number?

If you don't want to allow that, why not just to fb_{facebook_id, tw_{twitter_id}, etc.?

Re:Offer YC: Let me rebrand your startup for free on Thursday August 04, 2016 @12:01PM (#12226433)
Big time.
I've seen it on a lot of websites.

It's better if you don't remember which email you used to signup, as it validates it right away without you having to enter the password, so you can make multiple attempts more quickly.

It somewhat looks better because after you've entered your email they can show your profile picture.

On Chrome at least, autocomplete still works, so you don't have to enter your password manually if you have it saved. I don't know if other browsers (or even Chrome on certain websites) might get confused if username and passwords aren't together.

It makes it seem easier to login. Having to fill 1 field twice feels better than having to fill 2 fields once (in my opinion, at least).

TL;DR Amium vs. Google Docs (and others)..?
Re:The Apple Goes Mushy Part I: OS X's Interface Decline on Tuesday July 26, 2016 @08:56AM (#12165248)
It's quicker to glance at icons and spot the app right away than not read each and every item in a list.

A globe.
Re:The Apple Goes Mushy Part I: OS X's Interface Decline on Tuesday July 26, 2016 @07:38AM (#12164865)
The point is that an icon that shows a stylized phone handle is better in 2016 than a skeuomorphic depiction of a whole rotary phone.

My laptop doesn't even have a CD/DVD tray. I forget last time I've used a CD.

The author must be 90 years old.

You know, Google Chrome's icon doesn't depict a webpage, but I know I can click on it and use it to browse the Web.
I thought they started selling bioweapons on Silk Road...
Re:The Apple Goes Mushy Part I: OS X's Interface Decline on Tuesday July 26, 2016 @07:17AM (#12164775)
Nope. That would be a branding nightmare.
Re:The Apple Goes Mushy Part I: OS X's Interface Decline on Tuesday July 26, 2016 @07:07AM (#12164754)
Yes but a flatter look doesn't necessarily look worse.
Re:The Apple Goes Mushy Part I: OS X's Interface Decline on Tuesday July 26, 2016 @07:04AM (#12164740)
This article doesn't make any sense.

The use of metaphors worked when people didn't know what a computer was, and the only way to make its UI make sense was to mimic real-world objects. Now, this is no longer necessary. It's been 40 years.

While I agree that new macOS icons aren't great (see the Game Center icon), the old ones were silly. I'm 35 and I have probably seen an actual contact book only once when I was little. It doesn't make sense to have a skeuomorphic contact book as an icon for Contacts. The old icon for Pages? I don't even know what that is, I'm not into calligraphy.

The only thing I'd agree with is hiding UI controls. Apple has been making its apps less usable to make them look pretty, hiding important elements in an attempt to declutter the interface. I hate how Safari hides the full address in the address bar, for instance. Or, how they removed scrollbars and force people to actually scroll every piece of the interface to check if there's something more to see, while before you could tell just by looking at scrollbars. Of course, there are settings to go back to the old behavior for both my examples, so power users are fine, but I fail to see how these moves improve things for regular users.

I also disagree that Steve Job's death was detrimental to macOS's UI. He was the one who kept Apple looking outdated with his obsession for skeuomorphism, I'm glad they went for a flatter look right after his death.

Of course, everyone's taste is different, but I still think this is a bad article.

To make money I'd assume.
Also, let's not forget performance. Many ads make pages take forever to load and sometimes even crash.
