Re:Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses? on Wednesday October 23, 2019 @06:12AM (#21333058)
This is great! I assume most of your customers will be businesses, so why not offer a bulk "@domain" subscription for $999 (lifetime) so that anyone in the business can use it without restriction. Restrict the other packages to personal use and you should be able to drive up your income.

How do they plan to beam energy back to Earth?
Only on the US store, unfortunately.
Re:Possibly the Most Realistic Artificial Skylight on Friday February 27, 2015 @05:02AM (#9118071)
It looks impressive, but I wonder what the power requirements are? What is this in equivalent LED bulbs or cost per year?
Re:An IoT dashboard on Thursday February 19, 2015 @07:59AM (#9073768)
People are leaving at 2/3AM? Hope this was an office event!
How are chip and pin cards "completely unsuitable for ecommerce and mobile payments"? I can manage both of these fine in the UK.
Re:f.lux has been updated to a new version on Wednesday October 16, 2013 @12:29PM (#6560548)
I was interested in using the expanded range, but it needs to access administrator privileges which I can't use on my locked-down work laptop. The normal version is a lifesaver though!

I really like this, made a quick one with snaps from Angkor Wat in Cambodia: http://www.chromatic.io/lTOfsdP
Do you have links to any good tutorials about programming (in any language) for this purpose?
Re:Amazon Unpacked on Tuesday July 23, 2013 @10:22AM (#6090192)
It's nothing to do with the metric system. Can you visualise 330m, or would it be easier to visualise three football pitches (or insert any other familiar large area)?
Re:WaterForward on Monday July 15, 2013 @01:23PM (#6047024)
How about instead of a one-off donation of 20, they had a further site for recurring payments? I got to the end (without spamming my friends), hit the payment page (would have auth'd with paypal but no option to), then didn't end up doing anything. It's well presented but needs more than one funnel for people who give up at the end.
Re:Startups, please write better emails on Sunday December 02, 2012 @08:27AM (#4861115)
Incredible. This is exactly what I thought when that Cue email popped into my inbox this morning. "What the hell is this?"

I'd rather take a hit to my reputation than a hit in the face with a bullet.

Indeed, the monetary value makes things impersonal - great idea!
Re:Petter's DIY Segway; not bad for 300 euros ($450)... on Tuesday July 26, 2011 @10:34AM (#2807487)
Considering a normal Segway costs about 4-5 times that, it's pretty impressive stuff! I'd like to know how long the batteries last/how fast it could go. Seems a lot more portable than an actual Segway as well.
Amazing blog, thanks for posting it. Been living in Paris for two weeks now and not really even tried to speak French, my aim by the end of my internship was to become conversationally fluent. Definitely starting this soon: http://www.fluentin3months.com/the-smartest-decision-you-wil...
Re:My experiences as a Recruiter on Hacker News on Tuesday July 12, 2011 @04:44AM (#2754039)
It always amazes me how people will actually take time out of their day to personally abuse someone. Great response post and best of luck with your recruiting!

Re:My life in Accenture before startups on Thursday June 09, 2011 @06:29AM (#2636591)
"The height of absurdity was reached, I believe, when I was asked to prepare the proposal for the preparation of a plan to produce a proof of concept for a module of a tool the client was implementing."

Wow, that sounds pretty inane.

Re:Museum of me - A museum made from your own facebook data on Wednesday June 01, 2011 @10:18AM (#2607339)
It creates a nice animation showing your profile pictures, friends, tagged pictures, status updates, videos etc on walls in a museum with people walking around your 'exhibits'. It's a fun timewaster.
