Plain prerendered html5 with no JS was not available?
Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by JetSpiegel on Monday March 17, 2014 @12:43PM (#7416162)
Where's the framework for that?
Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by chris_mahan on Monday March 17, 2014 @01:04PM (#7416356)
the great text files framework.
Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by JetSpiegel on Monday March 17, 2014 @01:52PM (#7416723)
And its IDE, vim.

I prefer nano, as it reminds me to keep the files short.

What makes you think www.ubuntu.com is not prerendered html5?
Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by chris_mahan on Monday March 17, 2014 @03:50PM (#7417607)
The page: http://design.canonical.com/2014/03/making-ubuntu-com-respon... Shows as 112 KB by lori in FF. Really? 1/10 MB for a page of text?
Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by tvxedoman on Monday March 17, 2014 @05:24PM (#7418202)
jQuery was probably already cached on your end, all 300kb of it
Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by chris_mahan on Monday March 17, 2014 @07:16PM (#7418784)
Yes, probably. but that means there is still 100+KB being sent over the wire each time...
Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by chris_mahan on Monday March 17, 2014 @03:51PM (#7417617)
And since

http://design.canonical.com/2014/03/making-ubuntu-com-respon...

goes 404, I assume there's a handler that built the page on the fly.

No?

Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by tych0 on Monday March 17, 2014 @04:20PM (#7417812)
No, e.g. I use this rule in my .htaccess on my blog:

  RewriteEngine On
  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^.*\.html$
  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
  RewriteRule ^(.*)$ %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.html
Which means you can access:

http://tycho.ws/music or http://tycho.ws/music.html

Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by chris_mahan on Monday March 17, 2014 @05:01PM (#7418067)
ok, so where's the .html file for that page?
Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by chris_mahan on Monday March 17, 2014 @05:04PM (#7418076)
I went to http://www.canonical.com/index.html and there was a 404.

Surely there should be something there...

Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by chris_mahan on Monday March 17, 2014 @05:06PM (#7418086)
There's also no robots.txt... Odd for a static site don't you think?
Re:Making ubuntu.com responsive by tych0 on Tuesday March 18, 2014 @12:11AM (#7420104)
I suppose it isn't obvious from the rule I gave, but it doesn't necessarily have to even be web accessible. Why does it matter so much anyway?
