But seriously, unless you have the perfect storm of public transportation systems and public schooling systems, you're either getting a car to shuttle your kids to school or you move to the suburbs for better public schooling.

Of course there are exceptions. I'm talking trends, as this article is.

Didn't you know? In the USA, Child Protection Services will rescue kids from homes so broken that they have no car!
