Previously untranslated Einstein paper in English

As far as I can tell, this paper (in which Einstein solves a decades old question about Crookes Radiometers) has never been available in English before! Einstein’s work became public domain on 1st January 2026, which meant that I could finally release this translation that I did during my PhD in 2019! Its a fairly easy read and demonstrates the great scientist's laser sharp mind.

I have a blog post that gives a little more context: https://adaptive-machine-patterns.com/blog.html#einstein [alt. link: http://archive.today/381Pl] I am new to blogging, so advice welcome.

The preprint is hosted at CULA repository (many thanks) https://www.repository.cam.ac.uk/handle/1810/398349 and it has a DOI: https://doi.org/10.17863/CAM.127224

That it was previously untranslated isn't noteworthy imo, Deutsch ist doch keine antike verlorene Sprache ;)

No, it is noteworthy. Even within Europe and decades ago, when I trained in a field where much important literature was in other European languages like German or French, most undergraduate students were no longer interested in learning those and wanted everything to be provided in English (or the local language). Major academic publishers had already been comissioning, to guide students through the history of the field, volumes of classic nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century papers that had been translated from the original German etc. into English.
