I've only been dipping my toe into coding with claude recently (software is a secondary part of my job, and when I messed with AI a few years ago I wasn't super impressed). After revisiting things, that's the freakiest part. I just can't shake the feeling of "things aren't supposed to work this way". It doesn't feel safe, even running in a VM and being careful not to give it access to anything proprietary or sensitive.

In fairness, the tools are known to escape containment in situations where they’re explicitly told to by irresponsible frontier labs who are trying to make the government ban open weight models

Every company in the world feels "safe" in sending their proprietary code, design documents, and business strategy into a black box that learns from all that and returns code and text, which is used sometimes even without revision.
If people are so simple minded they cannot see the downsides for everyone here, except the ones controlling the black box, then I don't know what to say.

Woopsie
The world economy is also being propped up by all of this. In all likelihood, this Binance hack is only a preview of what's to come.
