If they actually cared about investing in the ecosystem (and not dividing it), they'd be investing in something besides a ricer project. No shade against ricers, but it's not exactly QubesOS or NixOS or Silveblue or Talos, not exactly pushing the envelope in any direction besides "pretty". DHH may have great opinions about Linux for all I know, but I just don't see how you justify millions of dollars for really good opinions--especially because his other opinions are widely regarded as especially bad.
It's the same playbook that governed US foreign policy in the 70's (consider Chile for example):
- identify your remote enemies
- identify their local enemies
- empower the second group
- regime change, and now the new regime owes you a favor
The regime they're looking to change is that most tech folk don't tolerate white supremacists.
And companies clearly want that as well.
