Eh, that is if they pay. Trump already made threats for tariffs in regards to those fines.

You're splitting hairs in this case, while that's unquestionably true, it's irrelevant if there tariffs are only set on one party.

That's why Trump's tariffs on everything was so ... Uh ... "Interesting". If only one party gets the tariffs, you end up with other parties selling the goods instead, which does cause meaningful damage to the tariffed party

Or the tariffing party just continues buying very nearly the same amount of things at higher prices in many categories because those items don’t have perfectly elastic supply and demand.

Technically true but highly misleading. The amount of good like that are few, less then 30% of the EU -> US trade.

That’s actually kind of like not a good statistic though.

For 30% of transactions with the EU it’s just the US shooting itself in the foot and passing on higher costs to average Americans. Your TSMC chips manufactured in Arizona are going to be made on ASML machines that cost more to buy and service. There’s no alternative vendor for that machine.

For 70% of transactions maybe possibly hopefully there’s some kind of chance that onshoring might happen, or maybe US consumers And businesses lower their spend on European products. But they probably won’t go from 100 to 0 or anything like that, and in response Europe will look for better customers like China’s growing middle class.

I guess that 70% of products seeing less interest from American buyers “hurts” Europe, sure.

Either way it’s all to the detriment of US soft power. If the US isn’t going to buy stuff from Europe anymore why should they cooperate with the US anymore?

This is the presidential administration that just announced an illegal third term presidential run. The people in charge of this country right now are literal traitors, and tariffs are part of those traitorous actions. The guy who does real estate money laundering for the Russian mafia in New York City is happily trading US soft power in favor of self-enrichment.
