Re:The SEC Should Block Anthropic's IPO to Protect the Public on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:40PM (#50346415)
All human endeavors play favorites. We shall see if the SEC will let lightning strike two times in one year.
Re:The SEC Should Block Anthropic's IPO to Protect the Public on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:38PM (#50346405)
The insiders at the top won’t allow it…
Australia and New Zealand don’t make cars? They have no skin in the game…
Most of the cheating historically happens in the American South and that cheating, making it harder for people to vote continues to be a time-honored tradition in that part of the United States still.

Donald Trump and the current Republican Party does not care about anything other than winning at all cost. And if they don’t win, they will cry like Little Lord Fauntleroy.

Forward them to their, partner Microsoft…
Oracle begging couldn’t happen to a nicer company, the only thing that can be said is bubble, bubble bubble…
From where? There may be some profit but I don’t think it’s gonna be anywhere near what they are expecting and the same goes for OpenAI.
Outside of the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the rest of the world can choose their computer and choose their model, and they will.
Every country in the world outside Europe and United States will adopt/use an open Chinese model because it will cost them relatively nothing, the only thing they have to supply is hardware. And the Chinese certainly can provide that. And so can several other companies outside of China. But those companies won’t be OpenAI, Anthropic or even Nvidia.

Where is their moat? Ultimately, where is their profit? answer? There is none at least there is none that will come close to whatever imaginary valuation Wall Street comes up with, in the best of times, while Wall Street may be able to carry one such company, but two within the same year?

Worldwide, it is will be the cheapest model. That is going to win out. In the United States. and Europe, that will be their (OpenAI/Anthropic’s) markets, every place else probably will be a Chinese Open solution. And that will be no different than EV cars. or solar panels the Chinese dominate worldwide and the same probably will happen with AI models outside the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and one or two other countries.

Also, because of the three hyenas of memory, the Chinese probably eventually will have control of the memory market too in the near 3 to 5 year future.

Excellent example. If you ever wondered why you’re cola, your orange crush, your Dr Pepper taste funny, just drink a soda made out of corn syrup, nothing you can eat on the face of the planet is good for you if you eat it in excess without exercise.

Which was something before the last century, you didn’t have to worry about because most people had to work like a horse to survive, and many people on the face of the planet still do.

There are two things allowing people to live longer lives today. Vaccines and antibiotics, both of which are critical towards any human being living past the age of 20, too bad, there are many people today in some of the Western countries that have forgotten what it was really like to live in a time when you could die from an infection before the age of 20, it only took two generations, maybe three, to forget that.

I remember the march of dimes and all those infectious diseases that took out a significant number of kids before they reached 10 years old, and if you did survive, many were either blind, disfigured or crippled many countries in the world are still going through that…

The biggest killer of humankind has always been some type of disease/pestilence or infection before the age of 20 causing death, disfigurement, or lameness and if it wasn’t that, it usually was at the hand of another human it wasn’t by eating animal fat or sugar particularly after the discovery of fire and cooking.

By the way, the screw worm fly is now in Arizona and New Mexico up from Texas hopefully the current administration has learned something from Covid the first time around, doubtful.

Corn syrup is used because it’s cheap. It isn’t used for taste. That’s secondary. Particularly in America…

Hope not because many of those old seeds carry resistance and immunities to various old line diseases/funguses/bacteria/viruses/pests from the past. That resistance is probably going to be needed going into the future at some point guaranteed.
Re:US boy names that became girl names and vice versa on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:11PM (#50341012)
Most of the names that flip over seem to be names associated with the gentry class, many of the names seem to be neutral, soft very inoffensive names.
Profit is the main motivator. Do you want your soda made out of cane sugar or corn syrup?
The best sardines (Nuri) in the world come from Portugal. A guy from California…

PS Even better with great bread.

Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @02:31PM (#50318655)
The schmoozers/lobbyists aren’t working currently in America we need problem solvers and clear thinking.
Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @12:48PM (#50317770)
Absolutely. the first time I found out the Chinese have quite a few engineers involved in government. I said that explains all the infrastructure being built. Mind you no human endeavors are perfect. But there was a time in the United States not too long ago where there was more of a can do attitude, I don’t understand why high-speed rail is not a thing.

I also don’t understand why the Pan American Highway or rail from Nome, Alaska to the tip of South America never got built. Nor can I understand why Oak Ridge, Tennessee Thorium Research Center and further development was left to rot. The Chinese are very close to throwing element 90 in our face.

Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @12:38PM (#50317672)
In my lifetime, it has been a skill of procrastination. and milking the public…
Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @12:34PM (#50317634)
China has more engineers involved in their government. Who tend to be more clear- thinking let’s solve the problem at hand. Which explains why they have so many infrastructure projects going on across their country.

It also partially explains why they pursue are open to multiple solutions to a problem. And it certainly explains why they looked at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and that thorium research and built two thorium reactors and will probably build many more because guess what?

They figured out how to make it work and apparently solved that alloy molten salt problem, it took about 10-15 years but they are on schedule. to deploy many more reactors after 2029.

They also switched or are are in the process of switching from lithium batteries to sodium ion batteries which is something else they didn’t have to do, they could hung on to lithium through 2040 milking, but instead they are moving on, which is also something that can happen when you have a bunch of engineers involved in the decision-making as opposed to those finance/MBA people who have a tendency to want to milk people for as long as possible.

The usual grifters have had their chance in most Western governments. Lawyers, landlords, the gentry, etc… I am skeptical but the present bunch that is usually very well represented in most western/eastern governments have had plenty of time and opportunity and look where we are at now.
Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @12:05PM (#50317399)
There’s a chance of failure in any human endeavor. but I am sick of lawyers, bankers, landlords, lobbyists and various other grifters hanging on currently in most western governments no one can say that they haven’t had their chance. There needs to be a wider variety of professions involved at/in the legislative branch.
Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @12:02PM (#50317377)
Maybe it might lead to Serbia turning it around. The fewer lawyers, lobbyists, professional politicians, landlords, real estate people and bankers, who have had their chance around the world running various governments, to no avail in many cases. A wider variety of professions in the legislative body is needed and it can’t hurt anymore than what has gone on in the last 80 years.

I understand China has a large number of engineers. Involved in their government in comparison to the United States…

Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:18PM (#50299092)
Webkit, which was forked by Google.
Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:11PM (#50299044)
The great percentage of it is free to gather information to service their ad empire the public isn’t paying for it directly.
Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:07PM (#50299011)
Google, Meta and Microsoft’s track record. Is not that good beyond their core in fact, they’re horrible when the playing field is level, Nadella right now seems to be the most vulnerable. It’s copilot or bust..
Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @09:59PM (#50298968)
They didn’t. They bought out another company. Did Meta create WhatsApp? and Snapchat? Everything else that Meta tried to stick their foot in has failed, but Muse seems to be promising. Both are very profitable ad companies. With a few me-too hardware products. Ads bring home the bacon.
Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @09:53PM (#50298934)
Virtually nothing. Their processor is at least seven years behind the times. It’s not profitable. It’s just a Me-too loss leader to service the ad machine. 3D models and data-centers are built on top of that.
Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @09:49PM (#50298909)
All Google loss leaders to service the ad company, Microsoft is also running into the same problem. Xbox, Blizzard games and Copilot are not profitable and to top it off. Between the two of them, they have spent upwards of $330 billion dollars in 2026 on AI models and AI CapEx. Microsoft laying off 60,000-70,000 people didn’t come out of thin air.
Are you sure you wanna hang your hat on that????
Is America buying Russian diesel? How’s that working out?
