Re:Making WebAssembly a first-class language on the Web by hrmtst93837 on Thursday March 12, 2026 @04:28AM (#47347950)
Assuming JS is the 'right abstraction' just because it does dynamic typing and objects is a weak argumment now that more of the web is compiled code and wasm workloads are used everywhere from figma to games. Dynamic typing makes cross-browser hacks easier, but it also means you can't enforce invariants at compile time, so exploits slip through cracks that type systems could plug. Wasm doesn't compete with JS for every task, it skips slow JS JIT and gets closer to native speed, which actually helps when you need stable, verifiable perf or want code to run exactly the same everywhere. Sticking to only one abstraction gives us the same security nightmares in new flavors, and pretending JS is perfect for all browser code feels like wishful thinking.
