IMO if you want things to change, you should probably hope for the "right" party in the next presidential election, not the midterms. If an opposing Congress doesn't come to agreement with the president, then there's a fair chance the "wrong" party will get blamed during subsequent elections and lose again. Things were going great until the wrong party screwed it up, etc. And that might even cause the president to bypass Congress and take more power on the remaining things he hasn't yet.
