Isn't it a bit late in the year to be introducing the "theme of 2012"?

It will be packaged with WordPress 3.5, which is slated to be released around early December.

It's probably called Twenty Twelve because (1) they're trying to be optimistic about the 3.5 release date and (2) the theme was meant to be included with 3.4, but didn't get done in time.

It's called Twenty Twelve because it's the default theme that was released this year.

Next year we will have Twenty Thirteen and so on ...

In just three short months it is going to feel horribly dated.

I would be more concerned that the Olympics might call and demand their number back.
