I'm pretty sure Cable boxes all have HDMI these days, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Monitors won't have an over-the-air tuner, so, you'd need to use an external device to watch broadcast TV.

Thanks for pointing that out -- I skipped over that first footnote. On my screen, it's on the previous page from the quote I posted (for what it's worth).
From the dissent: "In the 1990s, Oracle created a programming language called Java..."

Sun Microsystems was acquired in 2010... I guess I should give Thomas the benefit of the doubt that he intended the statement to apply to Oracle's owned IP & not be a historical account of the language's creation and creators, but this rubbed me the wrong way.

It just _has_ to be satire, though!

Nothing like condemning the entirety of a thing based on a single limited intentionally-bottom-of-the-barrel experience!

Original link worked for me, fwiw.

This list linked at the bottom is pretty insightful for Google products & relevant mitigations:

Confirms the `chrome://flags/#enable-site-per-process` flag is useful here & sure enough, the 2018-01-05 SPL was waiting for me on my Pixel when I looked.

Re:Video Games Satisfy Basic Human Needs on Monday October 09, 2017 @10:20AM (#15433982)
The STTNG Episode "The Game"[1] comes to mind :)

In the show, the device physically stimulates the pleasure centers of the brain to the point that players are highly addicted & easily manipulated.

I interpret it as allegory to the way "real" video games leverage variable rewards & other reinforcement to do something similar.

I don't think your criticism is very obvious. Can you elaborate?

The Bartle Test is a pretty common tool / consideration in gaming psych & gamified interfaces.

How is this licensed? Perhaps I'm missing it, but I can't seem to find mention of it on the site or in the repo: https://github.com/ionic-team/stencil
Do everything you can to advance the "open web" (or publishing & distribution of content in general) and eschew "walled gardens" (corporate or otherwise).

+1 To add to this, part of the draw of Uber for me is its ubiquity (& Lyft, but it's less widespread). My consumer experience is maintained in different international & US markets.

I don't have to worry about securing local currency before I can get around -- it just uses my card (which doesn't charge a fee to convert).

I don't have to worry about not being able to explain where I'm trying to go across language barriers or various levels of familiarity with a locale -- the built-in map app works the same way in Paris, London, Prague as it does in San Francisco or Durham. The GPS features keep drivers honest as to routes and adds a (small) sense of security as you know your journey is being tracked in case something goes sideways.

All that said, LibreTaxi looks really promising & I really like the premise behind it. Maybe, some day, I'll not want the tracking features, for example. I hope it takes off!

This is really well done. I'm fairly familiar with React & was able to pick this up around Section 3 "Core Components" [0] & feel like I could be decently productive with React Native.

Thanks for sharing your work!

This works for me as well. If there's no option to preorder, usually there's a pasta option that's passable.

Nice! I figured it existed, but a cursory search didn't find it. Thanks.

Someone needs to convert `capital_P_dangit` to a userscript :)

Excellent news. I wonder what the radio components will do to overall power consumption of the board. It should be considerably lower than a USB combo wifi / bt device, anyhow, no?

It's not a matter of me being offended (I'm not), I would just hope the company I worked for wouldn't stand for something as vulgar, primitive, and blatantly aggressive toward a competitor as this in a public, flagship product.
Re:Android Is Peeing on an Apple in Pakistan - Google Maps on Friday April 24, 2015 @07:38AM (#9432570)
One can only hope that if this was intentionally done by an employee, they would be punished and possibly let go. This sort of thing is childish, unnecessary, and has no place in a professional organization.
