Isn't there a lot of overlap between the two groups?
I recently read a great book that examines these various groups and their commonality: More Everything Forever: AI Overlords, Space Empires, and Silicon Valley's Crusade to Control the Fate of Humanity by Adam Becker.
Highly recommended.
