Re:India launches attack on 9 sites in Pakistan and Pakistan... by Calliope1 on Wednesday May 07, 2025 @07:38AM (#43914404)
India launched “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, 2025, targeting nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Jammu & Kashmir with precision airstrikes.

The strikes, according to the Indian government, were aimed at infrastructure linked to terrorist groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 Hindu pilgrims. India emphasized that the operation was “precise, restrained, and non-escalatory”, and did not target any Pakistani military facilities.

However, Pakistan condemned the strikes as an “act of war”, reporting at least 26 deaths and 46 injuries, including civilians and children. Tensions escalated rapidly, with Pakistan vowing retaliation.

International Response: UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged both sides to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation. Meanwhile, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and closed key border crossings, deepening the crisis.

The border regions are witnessing intensified military presence and shelling, causing severe disruption to civilian life. The international community fears this confrontation could spiral into a broader conflict — with the looming risk of nuclear escalation.

In this complex and volatile context, urgent calls are being made for diplomatic resolution, to protect innocent lives and uphold peace and stability across South Asia.
